New feature! We like animals, and we also like running pictures of animals, as you, gentle reader, may have noticed. So we're going to be our own enabler and start running an animal feature, which, for lack of editorial imagination we'll call Animal Planet. We also considered calling it Commander Snuggles Cuddly Fuzzy Happy Time Hour.
Anyway, each week, we'll pick and animal, and tell you where you can go to see it as part of a vacation. Lions, tigers, bears, whatever tickles our fancy. Got an animal you want to see? Send in the suggestion to tipsATjauntedDOTcom.
This week: Polar Bears. Fuzzy, white, and fierce, they're the animal kingdom equivalent of Donald Sutherland. In North America, the only package tours that offer a Polar Bear experience below the arctic circle are run out of Churchill, Manitoba. It'll run you about $1750 per person for a five-day trip to watch the bears.
Sounds steep, but it does include a bonus dog sled ride, in addition to watching the bears from the tundra buggy (it's like a giant school bus). Oh, and another thing to keep in mind: Churchill, Manitoba, is the mosquito capital of the world. So bring spray.
We say, what price fuzzy?
