London Traffic

Guess who doesn't like London? The British! Well, comparatively speaking, of course. Foreign visitors kept on coming to Britain's capital in 2005--numbers were up 7%--but local visits were down 6% in the same time period.

To counter this, the city of London has a plan: promote the Oyster Card, an English version of a Metrocard, to draw more visitors this summer. Yup, ease of mass transit with some newfangled technology is the main selling point of London. London, the sprawling metropolis founded by Romans in 43 AD and home to Big Ben, St. Paul's Cathedral and Buckingham Palace, has nothing better to offer than a swipeable subway card named after a slimy bivalve?

We expect London Underground Tube Diary to be happy, at least.
