Blunder Down Under

Where: Australia

Tourism ads are pretty lame. How can you boil down reasons to visit a place into a thirty second ad? Does a country need a jingle?

Australia's recent ad, which featured the tagline "Where the Bloody Hell Are You?" is no exception. There are beaches, kangaroos, and Aborigines--everything you'd expect. However, Tourism Australia did not take kindly to a recent online spoof of their ad, which features the same music and general concept, but extols aspects of the country that are less than outstanding. They made a dingo-ate-my-baby joke so we didn't have to!

It's caused quite a stir. The maker of the parody, Downwind Media, was forced by Tourism Australia to take down the video, but thanks to the magic of YouTube, we can show it to you here. Now excuse us while we go find our didgeridoo.
