Cell Phones Still a Danger in the Air

Looks like the use of cell phones in the air is likely to remain outlawed. According to a Carnegie Mellon study, cell phone calls can interfere with the GPS devices that are more and more in use during landings. To analyze the effect, a piece of carryon luggage was outfitted with an antenna attached to a portable spectrum analyzer. As it is, a few cheeky monkeys are already making calls during takeoff and landing (you know who you are). The interference that these handful of calls created was enough to create a measurable effect on the plane's navigation.
