A Soft Bulletin

Traveling presents an opportunity to see a band we may have missed at home. Often, it's a question of knowing where the best place to see a concert in town. Each week, we'll recommend a venue that you might want to check out on your next trip abroad. We'll call it the Choosy Concertgoer.

We're a little wary of big dance clubs, to be honest. They reek of glow-sticks, tracksuits, and chill-out mixes to us. Dance clubs often double as music venues, though, which somehow makes it much more tolerable. One such club that gets the Jaunted seal of approval on both counts is the Paradiso in Amsterdam.

Housed in a former church building in the Liedseplein (just like Limelight!) most hip musical acts and big-name DJs make a pit-stop at the Paradiso. When bands aren't playing, dance nights feature cabaret and jazz to complement the usual house music. At the moment the Paradiso also has a recurring event called Noodlanding!; we're not sure what it is, exactly, but it sounds entertaining and possibly delicious.

The Flaming Lips play the Paradiso on April 27th. Could there be a better band to see in Amsterdam than the Lips? We think not.
