When Speeding Down the Autobahn Is OK

Finally we've got it. The fool-proof way of avoiding a speeding ticket (and even getting something good out of it). And who's taught us our new cunning driving trick: the champions of drivers, the Germans, of course.

Location: typical German autobahn, near Wachtberg, just south of Bonn. A German couple are speeding along with the best of them, and a nasty speed camera takes their picture. What do they do when the speeding ticket arrives in the mail? They tell the police they were on the way to hospital to give birth to their baby. Result: the speeding ticket is torn up, and the cops send them a toy police officer holding a speed camera. Gee, that's sweet.

Okay, this couple probably really did have a baby. But it seems like such a good idea, doesn't it? Try it on your next jaunt on a German autobahn (lots of them have speed limits, remember) and tell us how it works.
