Northwest Airlines Punishes Carmelo Anthony

December 21, 2006 at 10:09 AM | 0 Comments

Northwest Airlines has pulled and in-flight magazine that features NBA star Carmelo Anthony on the cover. Anthony was involved in a brawl during last Saturday's game against the New York Knicks and received a 15-game suspension from the NBA. Apparently, NWA pulled hundreds of thousands of these magazines worldwide.

A Northwest spokesman says the airline didn't want to appear to condone the behavior of Anthony and other players during the game.

Northwest plans to replace the magazine with its January issue of WorldTraveler.

So charging passengers $15 extra to book exit row seats, cutting meals in First Class, and having a subpar website is fine by NWA, but when 'Melo sucker punches a Knicks benchwarmer the airline takes a stance.

Odd. If NBA commissioner David Stern really wants to punish Anthony he should force the star to fly NWA coach for the rest of the NBA season. Hopefully NWA will concentrate on their airline in 2007.
