Ski Report: Let it Snow?
December 18, 2006 at 8:29 AM | 0 Comments

In the northeast this week, there's a little bit of simmering malaise. With temperatures still nice and warm, you'd think even jaded urbanites would be happy. But knowing that ski areas are still closed and the season could be a bust would put us in a bad mood too. They're having the same problems in the Alps. But--if you haven't made plans yet--you can still get on the slopes where snow has been falling: head west, and cross those gloved fingers.
Dumps of fresh powder have been dropping in Washington and Oregon, making places like Stevens Pass and Mt. Hood Meadows fabulous venues for early season sussing. Around Lake Tahoe--which is now easier to explore--resorts are opening terrain after a sluggish start. Northstar-at-Tahoe opened 5 more trails today, and the resort now has five of its lifts open. And while it's de rigeur to complain about a lack of snow, at least the drive to the mountain should be easy!
