Apparently things were getting a little too comfortable for the racers because this week the producers jump in with a brilliant new twist: the Intersection. Its a new challenge for the race and forces groups of frienemies to work together. Will the Barbies be forced to work together with their mortal enemies Lyn and Karlyn? Will the Cho Brothers stop being so gosh-darn lovable? Would coal-mining Dave and Mary make it to the pit stop in time to avoid elimination after coming in last a week ago? Jump away as we head to Madagascar to find out.

DuKa were the first team last week and so are the first to leave this week. Dave and Mary are marked for elimination again but Dave's not too worried: "We know what we gotta do." The teams leave the Chateau bel Ombre and head to the airport.

DuKa leaves their busted car behind and on the way to the airport and chat about the race: for them, there's no need for alliances. Tyler, a few minutes behind them, agrees, hoping for an elimination this week: "It'll be the dwindled down four pack." Speaking of the Six Pack, they all caravan to the airport where they catch up with all the other racers. All six teams are on the same flight to Antananarivo, Madagascar, and Mary can't wait to meet her favorite Madagascarians: "I only know about the cartoon Madagascar and all the animals there."

On the other end of the Air Madagascar flight, the teams need to find the "Black Angel." Funny that because it's recently been painted white. After some local transportation excitement--cab drivers must hate the Amazing Race--the racers arrive at the statue and this week's twist: The Intersection.

Turns out its just a formalized version of what the teams have already done: form alliances. Each of the teams has to work with another until further notice from the producers. Tyler, James, Rob and Kimberly immediately get together in a west coast gang, and elect to take the Fast Forward to crush the Six Pack teams. They split for a colorful butcher's row and a gross-out food challenge. Yum! The premise is basic: eat a pile of cow's lips in exchange for skipping the rest of this week's tasks.

While Team LA cruises to the butcher's, the other teams choose a detour: Long Sleep or Short Letter: either delivering mattresses or making paper. None of the teams go for paper making, which sounds about as interesting as watching glue dry. The Rural Racers, teams Alabama and Kentucky, do a pretty good job of getting their mattress covers on. They bind them together with fanny packs (!) but it ends up making the bundle hard to carry through the streets. As the mattress movers track down the delivery addresses, Rob, Kimberly, Tyler and James keep chomping on cow lips. James seems to love the challenge, and all four of them say bro a lot. The Cho bros and DuKa don't have much trouble with their task, and The Barbies know why: "We had some beef, some muscle." Could a DuKa-Cho love connection be next?

With the mattress delivery finished, the intersection alliances vanish. This episode's road block calls for teams to split up, with one racer searching the markets around Tohotohobato Ambonorona Analakely for four rubber stamps. So as one Barbie and Godwin, who have a sizable lead at this point, search for stamps, their partners run to Cathedral Andohalo, the sight of this week's pit stop.

We finally figure out which one of the Barbies is Kandice! She's waiting at the pit stop where Erwin soon shows up to hang with her. Kandice dances with the locals while she waits, but she doesn't ask Phil on a date this week.

In the meantime, the cow lip eaters are bragging about how far ahead they are. (They aren't.) We originally thought they'd breeze through to the finish line, but as it turns out, they had a big pile of hairy cow lips to eat. Kimberly's really taking her time eating--and throwing up!--and it's slowing down the two intersection-linked teams. When they finally finish grubbing, they split up and head to the pit stop.

Godwin dives onto the mat, earning a sideways glance from Phil, then asks, "Am I safe?" Dave and Mary show up fifth, which costs them a 30 minute penalty. While they wait it out, Lyn and Karlyn check in. After beating elimination once, Dave and Mary can't do it again: their race is over.

Best Bit of American Diplomacy:
In the cab with Rob and Kimberly:
Kimberly: "Breathing in exhaust is really bad for you right?"
Rob:"Most of them don't get enough protein, so their brains don't develop as much. The brain needs protein."

The Scoreboard:
Dustin and Kandice come in first again, and they win a trip for two to Hawaii's Big Island and a helicopter tour. Sounds pretty sweet. They also may have garnered some goodwill from the Cho Bros by being (fairly) reasonable while working with them on the mattress delivery. Lyn and Karlyn have never been too dedicated to the Six Pack, and with Dave and Mary out, will the alliance last another week? Or, is this the first play in the Cho's devious strategy to knock out the weaker teams they've nurtured.

Coming Next Week:
Teams slop around in the mud, but not before checking in at an Internet cafe where Lyn and Karlyn get a message from their kids.
