Airline Report: Ryanair Gambles on Gambling

November 3, 2006 at 11:45 AM | by | Comments (0)

Doesn't throwing your dough away defeat the purpose of taking a cramped budget flight? In a bid to boost non-ticket revenue, Ryanair has inked a deal with internet gambling company Jackpotjoy.com. The deal will start with some cross-promotion on Ryanair's website and eventually move on to include the airline's proposed in-flight cellphone service. We've lost at video blackjack on ANA's AVOD, and that was enough for us.

With the multitude of in-flight  annoyances expected soon--don't forget those seatback advertisements--we predict that the maximum tolerable duration for Ryanair flights will dip drastically. Not to mention that we fear for poor Aer Lingus, should Ryanair take over, though a name change wouldn't hurt the former. Clearly you've got to expect a little less from true budget carriers, but Ryanair is pushing it more than most.
