Get Hitched to a Stranger

November 17, 2006 at 9:40 AM | by djk | 0 Comments

Newly-launched networking site Hitchsters.com wants to set you up, but it's not what you think. This is a transportation networking site without full-fledged user profiles. Basically, its purpose is to help you split a cab ride to or from the airport with a stranger.

The site is currently running on beta for New York City only. A successful match goes like this: you enter your name, phone number, and the date and time you'd like to head to the airport. You then select a preference or requirement for a male or female buddy ("no preference" is also an option). Hitchster's database then does the data crunching, and you receive an email and text message with your buddy's name and number once a match has been made. It's then up to you two to figure the rest out.

Cabbing it is usually the most convenient way to get to/from the airport from/to the city, and it's not cheap. But as far as Manhattan goes, we'll take the AirTrain (even though it sucks for JFK) when we need to save money, and a cab when we want privacy.
