China's Chows still on the menu

Since it's the year of the dog, the London Times decides it's a good time to look at the Chinese's evolving relationship with canines. Short version: Urban dwellers are getting more and more of the fluffy, little type for a pet. Sure, the Chinese are still eating Man's Best Friend, but only about 10 million a year are eaten in a nation of 1.3 billion. That's still enough to make them the world's biggest consumer. If animal rights groups have anything to do with it, China or at least Beijing will be shamed into banning dog dishes in time for 2008 Olympics. just something to keep in mind.
