Late Labor Day Planning
North Easterners who haven't planned ahead for Labor Day weekend already can kiss reservations at nearby popular resorts like Vermont's Equinox good-bye, but don't fret. There's some fantastic alternatives right in the same locations.
Check out the Jared Coffin House (sister property to the chic White Elephant) on Nantucket. Sure, it's not beachfront, but a local bike rental and a short ride won't kill you. The house dates back to 1845 and is composed of six historic buildings. Rooms start at $225.
If you're into Woodstock, try the Woodstock Inn & Resort, where you can take an adventure day trip (fly-fishing, canoeing) or just hang out by the heated outdoor pool or partake in nine holes of golf on their course. It made T+L's '500 Greatest Hotels of the World' list last year. Rooms start at $209.
Or check out the stylish Porches Inn in North Adams, MA (above). Located across from Mass MoCA, select rooms come with, well porches, and their two bedroom suite has a spiral-staircased loft level. There's a complimentary breakfast and they offer a package with museum admission. Rooms start at $220.
So, even if you're a little late to the game, there's still plenty of Labor Day options...get on it!
