Yup, we're on a little classic American lit. kick today so in that vein check out Walden Pond Reservation. Yes, this is the Walden Pond of Thoreau and it's pretty beautiful. It has been turned into a 400 acre state park, and boasts a beach, tons of hiking and fantastic swimming in a 102-foot deep glacial kettle-hole pond that's about 70 degrees in the summer.

In other words, it's a serene little escape surrounded by hundred-year-old pine trees. Parking is $5 or you can park at Concord High School down the street and walk a ways. They've also got a replica of Thoreau's self-built cabin. To preserve the ambiance, no dogs, grills, bikes or rafts are allowed.
