If you've never been to Lenox, MA by all means avoid it in the winter. However, in the summer, it's a haven of classical music and picnicking and relatively unexpensive.

From June to September Tanglewood is the home of the Boston Symphony Orchestra, Boston Pops, chamber music groups and jazz performances. There's something musical going on practically every night, tickets for the big shows are only about $18 to sit out on the lawn and the ample parking's free in one of the most scenic parking lots ever. Get there early and walk the grounds, hang out and picnic like a pro. Around 8,000 people are there nightly but for some reason it never feels crowded.
