Highgate Cemetery

The Times pays a call to Highgate Cemetery, whose ultra-Victorian setting and graves have made it irresistable to writers Tracy Chevalier (Girl With a Pearl Earring) and Audrey Niffenegger (The Time Traveler's Wife) -- they both volunteer and have set novels there. George Eliot and Karl Marx are two of its most famous inhabitants, but it's the all-pervading gothic gloom that seems to be the biggest attraction.
