New Airline Alert: Elite Airways Will Hit The Skies This Summer
It’s been some time since we got to talk about a new airline, and that’s probably because they just never seem to start flying—we’re looking at you PEOPLExpress. Anyway, there’s a new carrier coming to town, as Elite Airways, a charter carrier based up in Maine, looks set to expand within the next few months, offering service to and from Louisiana.
Obviously there’s still a lot to be decided and plenty of cash to be raised, but it seems that airline officials have a general idea of how to get this new venture up into the air.

What New Orleans is Planning to Do with $650 Million
Plenty of travelers head and to and through Louis Armstrong New Orleans International Airport each and every year, and that’s especially the case when events like the Super Bowl and Final Four take place in town. Airport officials realize that the place could use even more upgrades and improvements, so they’re thinking about throwing down $650 million to spruce things up.
The plans aren’t just for new restaurants and shops—the airport just got those—as this new plan calls from an entirely new terminal built on the north side of the existing airport.

New Restaurants and Fresh Food for Super Bowl Travelers at New Orleans' Airport
When it comes to cool airport names, we’ve got to say that Louis Armstrong New Orleans International Airport has to be one of the best. Starting this week the airport is going to be the gateway to this year’s Super Bowl, as visitors—and media—from around the globe head to the city to check out the pregame festivities, which probably have already begun. Thankfully the airport is more than prepared for the influx of visitors, as they just cut the ribbon on a bunch of new restaurants and shops over at MSY.
In total there’s around eight new restaurants and other spots to grab a bite to eat in the recently renovated airport, and that’s good news for hungry travelers heading to town. New Orleans has invested around a billion bucks on upgrades and improvements in advance of this year’s big game coming to town, and the airport advancements are just one piece of the spending.

Training Camp Travel: Who Dat Say Dey Gonna Beat Dem Saints
Are you ready for some football?! There’s still a few months before the first official kickoff, but that doesn’t mean that there isn’t time for a sneak peek. Training camps are set to do their thing later this month, so if you’ve always wanted to check out the scrimmages and practices now’s the time to start planning:
The New Orleans Saints have had a pretty rough offseason thanks to the bounty scandal and the resulting suspensions and related punishments. Even without their usual head coach we’re still thinking that the team has a decent shot in 2012, as long as they finally wrap up contract negotiations with quarterback Drew Brees.
Games against the Packers and Giants might prove to be a little difficult, but if they can overcome some of the offseason turmoil they should be headed far into the playoffs.

Help Brad Pitt 'Make It Right' in New Orleans' Ninth Ward
Earlier this month Ellen DeGeneres took a tour of New Orleans' 9th Ward with Brad Pitt, whose Make It Right organization has been working to rebuild the neighborhood after Hurricane Katrina.
During her tour, Ellen also met several young volunteers who have been helping Pitt in his efforts by painting, putting up dry wall, and doing other odd jobs around the newly built houses.

Three Final Four Packages to Get You and Your Bracket to New Orleans
March Madness is already underway—although we have to admit that the true craziness doesn’t begin until Thursday. There’s still time to finalize your brackets and make your picks—for entertainment purposes only of course. Watching the games unfold from the comfort of your cubicle is fine, but in person is much better. Here’s just three options to get you there, so you can enjoy it all in person in New Orleans.
Premiere Sports Travel
You better act quickly, because as of this morning there was only one more option left through the folks at Premiere Sports Travel. Get your credit card ready—and make sure there’s room—because the Deluxe Package doesn’t come cheap. For around $1,600 per person you’ll get access to four nights at the Chateau Bourbon New Orleans, and of course a couple tickets as well.
This package gets you what they’re calling upper level behind the basket tickets—better than noting—as well as transportation to all three of the Final Four games. They’re even throwing in a couple souvenirs as well as a welcome reception on Friday afternoon to sweeten the deal.

A is for Absinthe, B is for Boozing on the New Orleans Cocktail Tour

While in New Orleans this last weekend to check out the newly reopened Hyatt Regency, we managed some us-time to see the Saints walk all over the Colts at the Superdome. But the thing we can't stop talking about now we're home? The booze.
While no one needs instruction on how to drink when in NOLA, we decided to take the New Orleans Original Cocktail Tour, so we could wash down our history of the French Quarter with a delightful tonic or two. If you like learning a little somethin' as you get lit, we highly recommend this leisurely afternoon pursuit.
One of the most popular tours in town, it is not a pub crawl but a sophisticated stroll through some of New Orleans' most historic bars and restaurants, with plenty of colorful commentary along the way. Groups are capped at a maximum of 10 to keep things orderly, and our guide was a master at entertaining everyone and moving things along.
Since the tour kicks off at 4pm, the streets of the quarter are already filled with happy, buzzy souls, but we had no trouble finding ourselves a spot at the bar each time we called in for some stories and refreshments.

The National Hurricane Museum is Looking Pretty Good on Paper
Hopefully you got enough hurricane action this week to hold you over for a long time, but if not there’s always the National Hurricane Museum and Science Center. Here you can relive some of Mother Nature’s fury through interactive exhibits all while remaining safe and sound—and dry!
The only issue is that the place isn’t open yet, as they’re still trying to raise enough funding to debut the place in Lake Charles, Louisiana. There’s a vote this fall for residents to give their blessing to build the place on the downtown lakefront, but in the interim they’d love a donation or two.
