Austria's Melting Peaks
Global warming is slowly causing some of Austria's famed skiing peaks-Eisgrat in particular-to melt a few feet a year. Eisgrat itself has sunk 35 feet in the past 60 years.
Not to worry--those ingenious Austrians have come up with a simple solution. They've covered the peaks with giant blankets that are supposedly trapping in the cold and keeping out the sun's heat. At $24,000 a piece, they're hoping it works.
Researchers say the locals are fairly receptive, but are still praying to God that 1.2 million of them--who work on the mountain--have jobs in the next few years:
"The problem with most people is that they don't want anything to change -- not their jobs, not their relationships and definitely not the weather."
Hey, we hear you buddy. Although we're sure Ahhhnold could probably solve this for you in about two seconds.
