On a hopefully-weekly basis we will virtually travel to the exotic locale of a film opening that day and let you know the travel ins and outs of the films backdrop. Got an upcoming movie location you want us to check out? Tip us off, we'll do the rest.

If you're into masked rescuing crusaders, or just Natalie Portman without hair and in trench coats, check out V for Vendetta, opening today. The movie was filmed throughout the former East German state of Brandenburg, so we thought an insider's view on where to stay, eat, and what to see in the area might be a good prep for you before hitting the theatre.<

Where To Stay:
Hotel am Luisenplatz
This smaller hotel offers amazing views of the historic Luisenplatz and its urban mansions. Rooms are a little abrasive on the eye, doused in red and blue, but they are large by European standards and offer amenities like DSL connections. Service is personal and intimate, and the staff is friendly and will happily direct you to fun things in the area. Like fomenting revolution! On film.

Where To Eat:
Weiner Restaurant-Cafe
This place (at Luisenpl. 4, Potsdam-no website) is where to get your coffee on, old-school Euro style. They also are famous for their tortes and rich cakes. Something tells us Ms.Portman probably didn't come by here too often.

What to See:
Cecilienhof Palace
Used for the famous Postdam Conference of 1945 by Truman, Churchill and Stalin after WWII, the palace was built by Emperor William II and features 176 rooms, including smoking and music salons, as well as immaculately maintained gardens. Not fit for a king but an Emperor.
