Jaunted's Kiddie Traveler Series: What Cool Airline Swag Can Children Get?
When airline attendants see cute little travelers aboard, they can't help but give out freebies. Though it doesn't seem to work so much for cute adult travelers.
While all of the airlines we spoke with said they allow children to come to the cockpit and meet the pilot, some are better with the swag. If kids are lucky, they can score a kit. Here's what some international airlines offer by way of kiddie freebies:
· Cathay Pacific: Treats kids as "Junior VIPs" with kits containing coloring books, stationery, stickers, puzzles and games.
· Emirates: They offer young birthday boys and girls a great perk; tell the reservations agent ahead of time about your little one's special day and he'll get a cake. Plus, flight attendants even take a Polaroid—yes, a Polaroid—of the event.
· Singapore Airlines: But the mother lode of kits is found on Singapore Airlines, which gives out Cartoon Network swag, including plush toys and activity sets. While the goodies are rotated periodically for variety, past giveaways included Powerpuff Girls and Ben 10 toys. Hero up!
· Qantas: They hand out themed kits; the Sesame Street one—with an Elmo or Cookie Monster satchel, Sesame Street activity book, stencil and colored pencils—will drive tots wild. Though older kids will want Qantas' Surf's Up kit with a pencil case, activity book, drawing kit, a surfboard pen, magnetic game or playing cards, and 3D puzzles.
· Virgin Atlantic: Your kid will get gifted with a bright red K-iD pack, which is a backpack convertible to a messenger (in case a parent has to carry it), and it's filled with activity books, little game toys and a VA hat.
It's important to note that kids aren't guaranteed these goodies. Airlines give them out when they are available. But it can't hurt to ask. Here's what some domestic lines offer in the way of freebies.
· American: First Flight Certificate signed by the aircraft’s pilots and flight attendants.
· Continental: Wings.
· Delta: None.
· JetBlue: Wings.
· Southwest: Kids can get activity kits with post cards, playing cards, a coloring book and colored pencil, wings and a First Time Flyer certificate signed by the pilots and flight attendants.
· United: Wings, playing cards.
· Virgin America: Wings.
