Of course they already have cheap flights to here, there, and everywhere in and around Canada, but now they're prepping to take on New York-LaGuardia.
Live, in-flight television will be yours to enjoy on seven new nonstop flights between NYC-LaGuardia and Toronto beginning June 4. A couple weeks later they’ll be boosting the flight frequency up to eight flights, so they definitely mean business when it comes to serving the flying public between New York City and Toronto. They even just launched a codeshare deal with Delta, so you can continue on aboard Delta until your final destination.

Canada Gets Some Spinoff Airline Action Too, Thanks to WestJet

A new airline might just be headed around the Great White North before too long, as WestJet eyes the possibility of sending some new planes into the skies as part of a brand new airline. Apparently they’re sick of losing business to Air Canada and Porter Airlines, so it might just be time to fight back.
By this time next year, the plans could be in place for WestJet’s new regional airline. Head honchos at the carrier are already explaining that such a move would just be the next step WestJet needs, and that it would be a “natural evolution.” They haven’t made any decisions or placed any orders just yet, but they’re already thinking about ordering up some of those snazzy Bombardier Q400 turboprops to fly into smaller cities and markets.

As long as you can afford the fares, this should definitely help add to your passport stamp collection.
· Alaska Airlines:
This week’s big new route winner—at least to us—has to be the new options from Alaska Airlines. They’re sending their eskimo-tailed planes to two new spots beginning sooner than later. Up first is a nonstop option between Seattle and Kansas City starting up in March of 2012.
Next is a new option between San Jose and Palm Springs, but this is just a seasonal thing. This flight runs throughout the winter before taking the summer off beginning around June. Alaska is ready to celebrate the new options, so they’ve got both routes on sale for between $89 and $99 each way depending on when you’re headed.
· Porter Airlines:
Residents of the Big Apple aren’t too far from some great skiing this season, as Porter Airlines is bringing a new nonstop option between Newark-Liberty and Mont Tremblant, Quebec beginning right before Christmas. Sure it’s not Aspen or Park City, but it’s definitely a lot closer and in the same time zone. The flights begin on December 22 and continue to do their thing through the April 5. Expect plenty of fun and service both on the ground and in the air, as Porter Airlines is all about customer service—including free booze!

This week the airline announced that they’ll be flying nonstop between San Diego and Honolulu beginning on November 17. They’ll be using Boeing 737s on this route, and this goes along pretty well with their nonstop service between San Diego and Maui that they started up last year. Hawaiian Airlines already flies a similar route between these two cities, so maybe a little fare war can get us to paradise with a little money left over for a Mai Tai or two.
· Volaris:
The time to head to Mexico might be right now if you call Las Vegas or Los Angeles home. Volaris is launching new daily nonstop flights between those two spots and Mexico City, so if you’ve always wanted to see a little more of the real Mexico and less Americans lounging on the beach—this might be a good time. The flights run each day of the week through the end of August, and after that we’re not sure if they’ll decide to change things up. We’re still waiting for Volaris to bring some cheap flights to more parts of the country, but for now, we’ll take what we can get.

Simple Plan Sings About Airports and Jet Lag in a New Music Video

Honestly it’s probably not going to win any Grammy awards, but what we like about it is the music video, which we stumbled across it during channel surfing in France.
The music video features a cameo by Toronto Pearson International Airport along with many WestJet airplanes—we’re thinking they chipped in a little bit of cash—as the band sings about the true pains of having an intercontinental relationship. All of this time zone trauma has caused the lead singer’s heart to be so jet lagged, and that’s pretty much the theme throughout the song.

How the Airlines are Celebrating April Fools' Day

Southwest begins time travel flights:
Want to take a trip? Not to Florida, silly, but 1971? It can be done on Southwest, if you believe their April Fool's Day joke. According to their blog, "Scientist Reginald Aloysius McGillicutty has been secretly working in an undersea hangar for nearly twenty years," and he's managed to disrupt the time-space continuum in order to allow Southwest service into past decades.
We love the video above, because in all its awkwardness we see the fun spirit of April Fool's. On the other hand, it's pretty funny that only four people want to go back to 1971 and if they did indeed, their flight attendant would vanish (as she wouldn't have been born).
