New York: Travel Snapshots: Celebrating Park(ing) Day

Earlier today, we told you about Park(ing) Day, the celebration of hastily created parks in parking spaces around the world. Jaunted member JetSetCD spotted a couple in New York City and sent us this report:

Took a walk down 8th Avenue today over lunch and spotted two such reclaimed spots.
One is right in front of Balducci's at 8th and 14th (featuring bike parking--yay!) and the other is by Swich Pressed Sandwiches on 8th between 16th and 15th.
The latter is getting the most attention because they've got it fully cordoned-off with twine and have been decorating the sidewalk with chalk flowers. Cute! Sadly, no swimming pools.

Related Stories:
· Greenspace Travel: Happy Park(ing) Day! [Jaunted]
· Travel Snapshots coverage [Jaunted]

New York: Travel Snapshots: Keeping Kosher at JFK

Don't you hate when you're walking through an airport, dying for a hot dog or a potato knish with not a one in sight? Us too! So we were thrilled to find these vending machines on a recent trip through JFK's Terminal 4.
To the left, the frankfurter dispenser had kosher dogs ($4.50), while the Hot Nosh machines had all sorts of goodies, from cheese pizza to onion rings to knishes (around $4 each). Surprisingly, the gizmos didn't stink like fry oil!
But the best part? The machines advertise that they're open for business 24/6. Nothing like a religiously observant vending machine.
Related Stories:
· Travel Snapshots coverage [Jaunted]
· Airports coverage [Jaunted]
