So not too long ago—like yesterday—we were chatting about Singapore Airline’s newest offshoot that will be known as Scoot. Well today we got a little more information about the carrier, thanks to a tip from our buddy Will Horton over at the Wings Down Under blog—thanks again!

As you can see above, a rendering of the new paint job is already kicking around, and we have to say that it’s kind of cute. For a major carrier we’d probably have some reservations, but for a low-cost carrier it looks just right. We knew it was coming, and now it’s here—well, kind of. Singapore Airlines’ newest business venture—its very own low-cost carrier—has been unveiled and it’s going to be known as “Scoot.”

Scoot will be using Boeing 777s to serve the new low-cost routes, and if everything goes as planned it should be up and running by June of 2012. The airline’s base will be in Singapore—obviously—doing its thing to and from the city’s awesome Changi International Airport. The exact routes haven’t been announced just yet, but they’re planning to focus on routes between five and ten hours from the main hub. There’s plenty of low cost carriers being planned and prepped for takeoff in Asia, but now it looks like Africa is getting in onto the LCC craze.

Kenya Airways is thinking about getting passengers across the continent cheaply and quickly, and they’re going to do so thanks to a new airline that they’re calling Jambo Jet. The spin-off will focus on regional and domestic routes along with international flights between countries that are pretty close together. It’s time for another low cost carrier to hit the market, and this week it looks like Air India is going to try their best to get their brand of cheap fare into the air. Unfortunately, don’t expect the 787, as we’re pretty sure they’re going to save that for the more expensive routes.

At first it sounds like this will be just a domestic venture, so your dreams of cheap nonstop flights to New Delhi from JFK might have to wait a few years—or longer. It seems like every week there’s news of some major international carrier looking to get into the low-cost carrier business. This week it’s all about All Nippon Airways, as the carrier is obviously looking to stay busy while it sits patiently waiting for the first delivery of the Boeing 787 Dreamliner. However, they’re not going it alone, as it looks like they may be partnering with Air Asia in order to do the LCC thing.

Apparently things have advanced way past the drawing board, and there's even the possibility details will be released in an announcement next week. The rumors are that both airlines will team up to start the new carrier with a base in Japan serving most domestic destinations along with spots in the general region. Remember way back when, when we found out about Allegiant Air and their plan to bring cheap-o Hawaii flights to the masses? Unfortunately we’re not quite there yet, but we are one step closer to getting to paradise for just a song. The airline had to buy some new planes that could make it all the way to Hawaii—they’re Boeing 757s in case you were wondering—but until recently Allegiant Air hadn’t been flying them.

Uncle Sam—and his pals over in the FAA—just gave the airline the necessary stamps and approvals to start using their new planes, so now’s the time for them to hit the skies. We’re not sure exactly what it is, but there’s definitely something in the water coolers at major airlines across the globe. It seems that nobody is happy with just having one airline, as it's been a trend to launch low-cost carrier versions of their existing brands. Air Canada and Japan Airlines are just a couple of the ones cooking up some new possibilities, but the latest carrier looking to spread its branding is Thai Airways.

The airline board has already approved the move forward, but things won’t exactly be totally low cost for everyone. The new airline is like more of a regional option, for places where their bigger jets really can’t do their thing or at least can’t pack the back full of paying passengers.
