United Offers A Chance at Oz for $389 Round-Trip, So They Say

Alright now this Down Under War is just making us mad. The other day, Qantas was in its final stages of offering round-trips from either Los Angeles or San Francisco to Sydney or Melbourne for the bargain price of $530. Today, we learn United has gone even lower.
A roundtrip from either LA or SF to Sydney will only set you back $389. Yes, $389 round-trip. If you want to splurge for business, it's only $2,229.
There aren't many restrictions except that the outbound trip to Sydney (or Melbourne) must be no later than September 21. Oh, and the fact that we weren't able to come up with a $389 ticket at all. We did various searches on various days in various months and the lowest and oft-repeated price was about $901 round-trip. Not a very good showing for United in the Down Under War.
Also can you imagine flying United for 15 hours? Ugh, and we can totally see our baggage getting lost somewhere on the Lost island. So thanks, but no thanks.
Related Stories:
· Down Under War [Jaunted]
· Last Chance for Qantas' $530 Round-Trip from California to Oz [Jaunted]
· Everyone Wants You To Go Australia But Are You Really Gonna Go? [Jaunted]
· Australia Sale [United]

The Down Under War is not over yet but Qantas amazing sale fares for Oz travel from either Los Angeles or San Francisco are almost gone. You have until tomorrow to book this insanely low (in fact it's almost sickening) price of $530 round-trip for your travel to Oz from between August 2 and September 28 or from October 25 to December 6. Round-trips from JFK in New York are only $730.
Go here to book and do it fast as seats are selling out and most of the $265 rates are gone. And now let us say a few words in remembrance of the hard-earned dollars we spent on a Qantas flight to Sydney in early 2007--all 1,800 of them.
Related Stories:
· Down Under War coverage [Jaunted]

Everyone Wants You To Go Australia But Are You Really Gonna Go?

Move over South America! Australia is fast becoming the new hot destination. Or at least, it seems that way according to the Down Under Airfare War that keeps on raging.
Travelzoo has just let us know that the United Airlines and Delta have both matched V Australia's recent round-trip sale to Oz from Los Angeles starting at $649. The site recommends booking through their very own Fly.com (of course) but availability was found for departure dates Nov. 1 - Dec. 16 and returning between Nov. 3 - Dec. 21. Remember, that's <strike>Winter</strike> still Spring Down Under. Yet if you want to go before then V Australia has a flight from LA for only $530. And to think two years ago, we paid nearly $2,000 for our ticket on the not-as-cool Qantas. Ugh.
Low prices aside, we have to wonder who is really going to Australia these days? Do you plan on going soon? Or is it too far of a trek despite the budget fares? Will you just rent Australia instead?
Let us know how you really feel about visiting the wonderful world of Oz in comments below.
Related Stories:
· Down Under War [Jaunted]

Delta and Virgin Australia Make Love While Qantas Watches Wistfully

The Down Under War of the Airlines continues. This morning Virgin Australia and Delta Airlines have announced an interline partnership that will enable travelers to "travel on a single ticket on the two airlines between Australia and the US."
