Berlin: Air Berlin's Very Own 'Deltalina'

True to our promise, we've gone and jetted off to Berlin for a week with thoughts of currywurst and cycling over cobblestones dancing in our head.

We safely arrived early this morning to Berlin's Tegel airport via Delta's non-stop flight 78 from New York-JFK, an experience we'd rather not repeat due to a decrepit terminal, mass confusion at the gate, and the horribly cramped seats of an older plane. And remember that jazz about Delta being tops in terms of tarmac waits? They aren't kidding; we had read through our guidebook before even hitting the skies.

Beyond the terminal's hot pretzel stand and the vending machine stocked with Ritter Sport chocolate and Haribo Gummi-B�ren, we spotted this carry-on luggage measuring rack and its image of a perky Air Berlin representative.

Is this frisky-looking lass the German version of Deltalina? Sadly we didn't book the Air Berlin direct from JFK, but next time we just might have to if she promises to help us latch the overhead bins.

Deltalina Returns to Launch Delta's New Magazine

With so much travel news raining down on us, we don't always have time to give every story its own forecast. Here's more of the day's news, in brief.

· Deltalina Launches Sky Magazine: Delta Airlines will be getting a new magazine, Sky, which is "on newstands, onboard and online" April 1. There's a launch party on Feb. 24th and Deltalina beckons you to attend. If you dare. [Delta Invite]

· Andiamos! Lufthansa Italia Now In Flight: Flights from Milan to Barcelona and Paris have begun on Lufthansa. Brussels, Budapest, Bucharest, Madrid, London Heathrow and Lisbon will all be added by the end of March. [Travel Weekly]

Deltalina Gets Her Jaunted 'Close-Up'

We've told you about Delta Airlines' "Safety Instructor" Deltalina who appears in the safety video that airs before every flight. Here's a snapshot of the video that we took back in October. Let's just say that when you're crammed into the seats in the coach cabin and Deltalina is just inches away from your face, it's a little hard to take.

We're not against plastic surgery or anything (we've admittedly started a "Botox Fund") but Deltalina is in danger of going the way of Nikki Cox. That said, we prefer the cartoon woman trying to get a nic fix on Virgin America's safety video. Or even Larry Kellner of Continental who's snoozy video always manages to make us sleep before take-off.

Deltalina Shares Her One-Bag Packing Tips

To us, there's nothing more snoozy than reading detailed tips on how to squeeze the most junk into a small roll-aboard or how to cram enough gear for two months into a tiny pack. But Delta is hoping to spice up your packing with some tips from YouTube-famous Deltalina--pointers that are all the more important now that the airline is charging $15 for your first checked bag.

In talking with the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, Deltalina "reveals" that rolling clothes is the best way to neatly pack your stuff while also reducing wrinkles. Once everything's tucked away, she says, dropping a luggage tag with your contact info inside the bag before closing it up is a good idea. That way, if the ID you've attached to the outside disappears, ruthless luggage handlers can still determine which wheelie is yours.

The tips aren't exactly Earth-shattering, but as was the case with those recent TSA videos, they can't hurt with a bustling holiday travel week coming up. And having Deltalina doing the packing is sure to garner some extra attention, too. To wit: This post!

Atlanta: Deltalina Returns!

Delta's marketing sensation, flight attendant Katherine Lee, made a huge splash when she appeared in the airline's new safety video. And now she's back, prettying up the carrier's newish Flickr page. (That's "American Idol" singer Josh Gracin at right.)

You can also get more of Katherine on Delta's YouTube channel, where she hosts a new video guide to Atlanta. Something tells us it might rack up more views than this marginally useful guide to Paris. Check it out post-click.
