Monte Carlo: Monaco Taps Motown For Its 'Black Legend' Nightclub

File this item under "uncomfortable coincidences": the developers of the famed Hotel Byblos and St.-Tropez club plan to open an upscale nightclub in Monte Carlo, Monaco, with a theme of great African American musicians. To be called "Black Legend," the club will serve tapas all day while featuring impersonator acts singing soul, funk and pop music, but with a focus on the Motown greats.
Speaking from experience—wink wink—we can vouch for the fact that in Monaco, most of the nightlife happens either onboard a yacht or in a high-rise swanky condo, not in clubs or bars since the daytrippers and tourists take over those. Nonetheless, we don't doubt that "Black Legend" will be a success, considering the French disposition to old African American cabaret acts; they did raise Josephine Baker and more to stardom with the US would have none of it.
The club, due to open this October, should have plenty time to hone its Michael Jackson memorial act and more before the famed Monaco Grand Prix rolls back into town next May.
Related Stories:
· St. Tropez Hotelier Takes On Basque Coast [HotelsMag]
· Black Legend Monaco [Official Site, Coming Soon]
· Monaco Travel Coverage [Jaunted]

Hollywood: 'Entourage' Finds Vince Alone in His House After Partying at MyHouse

They should have ended the series with the final episode of last season which had Vincent Chase dramatically pulling himself out of nasty career funk by scoring a movie role with Martin Scorcese. But no. Entourage is now back in our living rooms on Sunday nights throwing all the perks of movie stardom and beautiful people and VIP lifestyle into our faces. Ok, we could choose not to watch it but what fun would that be?
The episode finds the boys once again living the good life now that Vince's done shooting the movie and is starting the publicity rounds, including a Leno appearance. But this year, it seems not everything revolves Vince. E, Turtle and Drama amazingly have found their own lives and things to do while Ari has his hands full with a promotion-seeking Lloyd and an old friend who has joined him at the agency.

Hollywood: Five Hot Hollywood Clubs Right Now

These are places where the starlets are stumbling from the bathroom stalls to their cars, the guys are popping their collars and lying about being producers, and the well drinks are clocking in at upwards of $20. So basically like everywhere else in Hollywood. Except much harder to get into.
If you're thinking to yourself "but I can't get past the rope line and even if I could the drinks are too expensive" - you're probably right.
New York: Sell Your Gold But You Still Won't Get Into Goldbar

Opened in 2007, New York City's GoldBar is literally a rich person's playground. John Mayer, who lives nearby, has taken Jennifer Aniston here for a nightcap, Diddy is a regular and "Gossip Girl"'s Leighton Meester will probably never be back after word got out she was allegedly smoking a joint there. But don't worry, you'll never find out if it's that good or totally overhyped, because you're not getting in there.
To begin with, the NoLIta hotspot looks more like a bunker from the outside, with wooden mansion doors and the ubiquitous velvet rope. The faux-aristocratic portraits on the walls give way to walls lined with gold-plated skulls which looked real enough to make us not want to venture any closer. A back lounge is separated from the bar area by a curtain of gold chains that shimmers in the low light. It's a comfortable place if you can forget that, dude, there's gold, like, everywhere.
Don't expect GoldBar to start relaxing its door policy now, though, just because we're in a downturn. Its co-owners are probably still smarting from the lumping in of their venture Cain, a 27th St. nightclub with a hunting lodge theme, with the bridge & tunnel reputation of west Chelsea's nightlife. By instructing its doormen to reinforce the door, investors can be sure the splendor isn't spoiled on the common people. And what better exemplifies the economic hard rain that does not fall equally on all than a nightclub literally decorated in gold?
Related Stories:
· GoldBar Finally Emerges from the Vault [NY Mag]
· Ms. Waldorf Has Her First Party Foul [Guest of a Guest]
· Why Socialista in the Jane Hotel Building was Shuttered [HC]
