If you're passing through concourse A or B at Baltimore/Washington International Airport this week, you may find yourself in front of a camera crew.

TLC is expected to begin filming a new untitled TV show about the inner workings of BWI's largest carrier, Southwest, today. The new series will follow BWI's expansion and the day-to-day drama that happens behind the scenes at Southwest.

Your next trip through or to Baltimore-Washington International Marshall Airport might just be a little more enjoyable, as airport officials are headed to the ATM to withdraw some cash for a major airport upgrade. In total, the plan is to spend like $100 million on renovations and updates, as the airport continues to gain passengers each and every month.

With all the travelers passing through the airport there’s a need to get bigger and better before it’s too late. Expansions will take place over the next 18 months—at least that’s the plan. New stuff includes moveable walkways connecting Concourse B and Concourse C, so you’ll never have to hustle off to your gate again. TSA has finally begun deploying the Gingerbread Man scanners that we started telling you about last February. The scanners detect suspicious objects and project them onto androgynous, human-shaped cutouts, the upshot being that they're as effective as current full-body scanners but without all the "having people see you naked" discomfort.

Reports are surfacing that the scanners have already been deployed to BWI and TPA.

The same rules apply to these scanners as to previous full-body scanners, which is to say that you get pulled aside if the machines detect a suspicious object or you refuse screening. This last Saturday, travelers going through Baltimore Washington International Airport may have spotted something a little different in the terminal; the pay-access Airspace lounge opened, giving everyone an opportunity to hang out in a posher environment than the basic gate area, plus extras like free WiFi and workspace areas.

Airspace, which costs $17.50 per person per day, is located in Concourse D at BWI. That means if you're flying AirTran, Cape Air, Continental, United or US Airways, that you've got another option besides sitting on uncomfortable seats amongst crying babies and teenagers in Juicy Couture sweatpants and Uggs while hugging your Sbarro sandwich.

We've popped a squat in many, many airport lounges (see photo galleries of alot of them here), but it's simply impossible to be a frequent flyer with elite status on every airline and alliance so that you've never left outside the lounge. Thus, we're not above paying our way into airline lounges; want to use a Delta SkyClub or American Airlines Admirals Club? That'll be $50.

International airports have long known the value of allowing regular (economy—shhh) passengers pay to gain access to lounge benefits; Hong Kong has an excellent pay lounge within a stone's throw of the swish Air France and Virgin Atlantic lounges. Tokyo-Haneda just opened a pay lounge so fine that we'd definitely rate it higher than any Delta or American lounge, and it costs only $12.25 for access. Just look at it! It's beautiful

Oh wow. Steps towards the re-opening of Cuba are coming quicker and quicker now, and the latest advance is a huge one: Eight new US airports have been given permission to operate charter flights to Cuba. It was only back in January that Obama and Congress re-allowed educational and religious groups to travel to Castro's island, but their departure points were limited to NYC, Miami and Los Angeles.

With the news that eight more airports—deemed to have sufficient customs and immigration facilities—can now begin their own travel agency-arranged flights, you can expect to see many more "My Cuba Trip" photo slideshows from your neighbors.
