Whether you know heaps about wine or only care whether it's red or white on a given night, you will probably have a lot of fun choosing your wine using Clo's "motion-activated" touch screen list. Not only that, you can pay by credit card and then—the ultimate geek touch—the wine is automatically dispensed into your glass, in 2oz or 4oz measures. No waiters required. Manhattan’s Museum of Arts and Design most likely doesn't make your list of must-stops for an NYC cultural crawl, despite the allure of their spiffy new Columbus Circle digs.

So the contemporary art spot is following in the lead of MoMa, the Guggenheim and other stuffy art institutions that have realized you can’t attract nearly as many patrons with actual art as you can with a nightclub atmosphere and booze. This is S.N.O.B wine bar in San Francisco which, as you can see, stands for Sonoma, Napa or Beyond.

Despite the name, S.N.O.B. is a totally chill place to grab a glass of wine and some small bites. Wines by the bottle, glass and flights (starting at $14) are offered as well as four different types of beer (Stella Artois is on tap) and non-alcoholic drinks.

Guests can sit at the long bar or in some funky wine barrel chairs near the front. Warning: These are not comfortable. We hit up the soft couch instead which was fine and dandy until a homeless woman sat down next to us and her blew her nose on her shirt. A Snob bar? Not at all.

S.N.O.B is open Sunday-Wednesday from 4pm until 11pm and Thursday-Saturday from 4pm to midnight.

Everyone knows the Viennese have a thing for coffee. But Vienna is also one of Austria’s big wine-making regions. The world’s only capital city which encompasses a significant amount of wine growing areas within its limits, Vienna also offers loads of places to drink wine.

The busy stretch of First Ave between 12th and 13th just got a bit mellower, with the opening of Terroir Wine Bar, from owners Paul Grieco and Marco Canora. (That's Paul introducing the place in the video.)

We hear it's a cozy spot with inviting exposed brick and beat-up floor tiles that are original to the bike shop that used to be in the space. Whip out your wallet for some of the pricier wines by the glass ($15-$20) or come for the happy hour deal: five wines for $5. Snack on cremini or fried sage wrapped around lamb sausage or bring friends and dig into the charcuterie plate ($21) of nine featured meats.

If you're not into crowds, wait a few weeks until the opening fuss dies down. By April, we're sure you'll be able to sidle up to the bar to unwind any night of the week.

Famed chef Daniel Boulud strikes again this week in NYC, with the opening of Bar Boulud on the Upper West Side, right off Lincoln Center. Daniel's newest spot promises a casual wine bar and bistro atmosphere, but we hear it's a lot less casual than originally planned with three private dining rooms, a huge kitchen and even a separate charcuterie kitchen.

What to expect menu-wise? Rustic bistro dishes like a saffron scented poisson soup or pork, lamb and rabbit terrines. The charcuterie is rumored to be out-of-this-world, rare and delicious and the extensive wine list (overseen by Daniel Johnnes) is devoted to just two regions: Burgundy and the Rhone Valley, but it's full of plenty of options. Bar Boulud is a great spot for a little New Year's splurging in our book.

Update: NY restoblog Eater says that Bar Boulud has hit an opening snag. Expect reservations around the middle of January at the earliest.
