The White Nights of culture are sweeping across Europe and while the Madrid version might see museums open all the way through to 6 am, over in Dublin they're a bit tamer.

At the upcoming Dublin Culture Night on September 19, the museums and galleries involved will extend their opening hours, but only until 11 pm--which makes it more a culture evening than a culture night, we think.

But it's still worth checking out. They're putting on free buses and there'll be live performances on Temple Bar. And we're guessing plenty of Guinness to quench the thirst that comes from engaging with all that culture.

The place to be this Saturday, September 13 is most definitely Madrid, as White Night fever hits the city. La Noche en Blanco 2008 sounds pretty enchanting:

With the full moon watching over them, Madrid residents and visitors will discover a new city, one made with illusions and dreams.

Traditionally, White Nights take place around the summer solstice in cities close to the Arctic Circle where the sky never gets dark for several days straight. To embody that spirit in Madrid, throughout the night, museums will be open, concerts will be on and all public transport will be free. With events running right through until 6 am, you'd better book Sunday as a day to sleep off that cultural overload.

Consider it the perfect event for insomniacs, people stuck working the graveyard shift or anyone who just loves a good all nighter of the partying variation: Sleepless Night.

Taking place on Nov. 3rd on Miami Beach, this event is a thirteen-hour party. Seriously. Sure, they throw in some "cultural" stuff like dance performances, concerts, art installations and "blush-inducing" acrobats. But this is all about appeasing your inner party monster:

Coupled with the bonus hour from the time change and the participation of businesses citywide, this event will be a complete cultural takeover and celebration of the 25th hour.

You will not want Sleepless Night to end. One adventurous night of daring and innovative entertainment--all free--at indoor and outdoor venues concentrated into four areas of Miami Beach: North Beach, Collins Park, Lincoln Road and Ocean Drive. Traveling theater shuttle buses transport insomniac participants to and from the four zones of activity.

The Shelborne hotel is the event's sponsor hotel and they are offering ocean front rooms for $207 that night. Also, the National Hotel has put together some package that includes dinner, breakfast and cabaret-watching for $453 that night. But if most of the food and shows that are part of the festival are free, then this might be a rip-off. Plus you gotta save your money for the Red Bull.

The end of summer is upon us, but that's no reason to stop partying: A bunch of European cities--plus Toronto--are about to start a round of all-night parties they call White Nights.

White Nights--or the sexier sounding French version Nuit Blanche--are celebrations with open-all-night museums, circus troop performances and opera, jazz and rock concerts that go 'til morning. A group of cities have now banded together to get a bit of a White Nights Circuit going, so if you've got some free time in the next month, check out these White Nights:

• Brussels and Toronto: September 29


• Paris and Valletta, Malta: October 6

So if you're into partying all night or just getting ultra-cultural in Europe, start adjusting your sleep pattern now.
