Sugar High, Up High: Five Exceptional Airport Candy Shops

If you’re flying next week, beware the red and pink cheap chocolates of the Hudson News airport outlets. While sending something in advance of Valentine’s Day is probably the best idea, you can always grab something nice for him or her on your way home from the airport, and no we're not talking about flowers from an arrivals hall vending machine. Here’s five airport candy shops that should satisfy any sweetie’s sweet tooth:

Sugar Pop - Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport

Even if you don’t need something for the upcoming Hallmark holiday, it’s worth it to stop in at Sugar Pop within the mall section of Terminal 1-Lindbergh. The place is loaded with different colors and sugary options, and they even have some teddy bears and other cuddly critters to go along with all those calories. This isn’t exactly the place for gourmet confections, but if you’re looking for oversized lollipops or personalized treats, it'll more than do.

Candy Empire – Singapore-Changi Airport

Sitting within the basement level of Terminal 3 is the spot you need to visit for chocolates, cookies, and everything in between. They promise stuff from Australia, Europe, and the United States, so if you can’t find something that fits your needs, you don’t know what you need. A few pieces of foreign candy from Candy Empire should hopefully smooth over any sort of trouble caused by not being home on Valentine's Day.

VA: Virginia is for Lovers and Lomographers: Win a Trip with a Single Photo

And apparently so is the entire state of Virginia, since their freshest tourism endeavor involves pitting real photos from Lomo cameras against each other for chances to win all-expenses-paid, experiential trips to the state that is famously "for Lovers."

Contest

Here's the deal: the Lomographic Society has turned out a "Virginia is for Lovers" special edition of their newish 35mm La Sardina camera, and to celebrate, anyone with a Lomo camera is welcome to submit a photo to the contests to win a Virginia trip. There'll be a contest every month, starting now through December 2012, and each has a specific theme for your photo.
Next Year, Just Forget About Everything Else and Go to Italy in February

She's a country that welcomes solo travelers with wide open arms, arms strong from making pasta by hand, so a hug from Italy is one you never forget. Dispensing with the awkward metaphor, just know tha if you've never been to Italy, the month of February is a perfect time to go, and you can start planning for a trip there next year now.
Your first step should be to start saving; maybe when you deposit paychecks set aside a small percentage in an Italy fund. Start talking about going; make your coworkers well aware that you plan to take vacation at this time of the year, next year, and that this trip means a lot to you. Venture into the historical fiction section of the bookstore and pull some titles for pleasure reading, and pick up a well-illustrated guidebook to Italy while there.
'How Much Do You Heart Me?' Asks Adioso's Travel Deal-Booking Flight Attendant

For those of you scrambling this weekend for a perfect Valentine's Day gift, and for those of you who just want to book some affordable travel deals quickly and easily, we've just discovered an awesome tool on Adioso, the travel booking site flavor of the month. They have a mini-site called "How Much Do You Heart Me?," starring an adorable cartoon flight attendant, who asks you how much, on a sliding scale, are you willing to pay for a flight and hotel vacation for two. Adioso then searches for package matches within your budget for upcoming weekends.
The deals can originate from most US cities, but we tested it out with New York of course, and began by setting it low, at $610 total for two people. How Much Do You Heart Me came back with a weekend trip to Arlington, Virginia (because Virginia is for lovers?) with a grand total of $552, including roundtrip airfare and two nights at a Hyatt for two people. Not too shabby, but what can the big spenders get?
