We type this from the bowels of the Oasis Lounge at New York-JFK Terminal 4, where the WiFi is achingly slow and our fingers jitter from a combo of excitement and the cold air leaking in.

Tonight marks the first scheduled departure of a Singapore Airlines Airbus A380 from JFK, and we'll be onboard...on flight SQ 25 all the way from New York to Frankfurt International, and on to Singapore-Changi International.

We'll be the first to admit that it's a slow news day. Nay, month. This is why we were thrilled this morning at the creation of a hilarious Twitter game by Jon Ostrower (aka @flightblogger). Based on the popular "Shit [whoever] says" meme running rampant on the internet right now, Ostrower began the #ThingsAvGeeksSay hashtag, and the #avgeeks readily replied to match wits.

If you get 'em, you're golden. If you don't, then ask an #avgeek; there's probably one sitting next to you at the airport right now.

He's baaack! Alec Baldwin mysteriously rejoined Twitter this weekend following his breakdown a month ago when an American Airlines flight attendant had him removed from a plane for refusing to stop playing the iPhone game "Words With Friends." Alec did eventually catch another AA flight from the west coast to NYC, but not before firing off some hurtful tweets towards the airline. And then he disappeared, deleting his Twitter account completely, or so we thought.

Just like it never happened, @alecbaldwin has been reinstated, complete with his original follower count and "verified" status. Although there have been no more invectives against American Airlines, we know the real reason Alec re-joined: publicity, of course.

Alec is an actor with upcoming projects to promote, not the least of which is this Thursday's premiere of Season 6 of NBC's 30 Rock. It's even been confirmed that Alec would show again if the series renews its contract for a seventh season. And, last but certainly not least, it's obvious that Alec loves to hear himself talk and enjoys the little extra bits of publicity his tweets create—kind of like this.

Of course he couldn't re-start his Twitter game without bragging about some travel; Alec just returned from a romantic departure to Turks & Caicos with his girlfriend, Hilaria Thomas, where they tweeted about a plane delay and the small size of the departure lounge. Believe it or not, airlines do like to show they care during the holiday season, some more than others of course. For example, Southwest will snap family photos right at your gate and Virgin Atlantic will be giftwrapping at several airports. Well, add an entire airport into the holiday cheer as Toronto-Pearson International offers to send carolers to meet the flight of your friends or family.

Yes, carolers will serenade the arriving passengers on a flight, if you tweet them to do so. Here's the details:

· The flight must be domestic and arriving to Toronto-Pearson between now and December 24.
· The flight must arrive between 3pm-8pm, except for the 24th when the hours are 6am-11am.
· Tweet @torontopearson with the person's name, flight number and flight date.

In totally-weird-but-kinda-makes-perfect-sense news, General Electric's Aviation division is looking to send an Instagrammer to their UK facility to take some pretty jet engine photos. It's a legit travel photography contest, we swear, it's just that instead of asking for video pleas or portfolio from shutterbugs, GE is instead going whole hog into social media by embracing submissions via the instant photo-sharing app and a simple hashtag.

If you've not made the move to Instagram your mobile shots (as we recently did, from mobypicture), then allow us to explain the allure. Instagram is a free app available for iPhone only (sorry Android users). It allows you to—in under a minute—shoot a photo, give it a cool effect (such as making it seem vintage, from a plastic camera, or black & white), share it on a variety of networks (Twitter, Facebook, Flickr, Tumblr, Posterous, Foursquare) and thus open it up for comments and appreciation from others.

It's essentially a mini-blogging platform just for photos, and GE has been enamored with Instagram since at least earlier this summer.

In news that surprised no one (except maybe stock holders), American Airlines' parent company AMR filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy today. Nevermind the warning signs and our own horrible experiences with them in just 2011—of three long-haul flights on them, two had long mechanical delays, all served crap meals and all were less than half-full—the Twitter community is still taking the opportunity to find humor in the situation.

Thailand's really tragic flooding of the last few weeks has been all over the news, complete with shots of locals pushing their belongings on rafts, homes lost. The water has reached Bangkok, but luckily still not the very center. It has however reached one of the city's two airports—Don Mueang Domestic Airport—out of which we flew only a month ago.

Don Mueang (DMK) is a huge complex owing to its history as the former main international airport for Bangkok...until Suvarnabhumi opened. Now it's just a hub for a few domestic airlines and it was most recently the makeshift emergency flood operations center.
