Forget about lugging heavy guidebooks on your next trip. When you need some advice on things to do in a city, contact one of the tourism bureau's Twitter concierges to get instant answers on where the best place for sushi is or what nearby museums are worth your dough.

Some tourism bureaus are smartly using Twitter not only to promote events in the city, but also to field tourists' individual questions and tailor recommendations especially for them. It's a quick, easy way to reach out to twisitors when they need some help in a new city.

It’s no secret that we have a thing for Twitter. So far this year we’ve seen it help us break news stories, get it touch with celebrities, and learn about your favorite city.

Microblogging is in for 2009, and we can’t see it going anywhere anytime soon. That’s why an ambitious lad from the United Kingdom is looking to tweet his way across the globe, or at least as far as possible, in only thirty days.

Paul Smith, who goes by TwitchHiker, launched his journey yesterday afternoon and has already made his way to Amsterdam, and is now off to Frankfurt. He’s hoping to check out the world en route to New Zealand, and is looking to raise money for charity at the same time.

We interrupt our regularly scheduled Celebs Who Twitter program to bring you a message about Tourism Boards that are Twittering.

A few weeks ago, Travel Telegraph reported that Portland, Oregon was hosting a own Twisitor Center. What we liked about this Twitter feed is that Portland has made themselves available for questions. Simply type in the "#inpdx" code in your tweet and Travel Portland will reply back with an answer.

So we got to thinking, what other cities are starting a "Wish I could quit you" addictive relationship with Twitter? (Don't deny it! You are on addicted to Twitter. Just like us!) And how useful is a tourism board who Twitters?
