New York City: 'War Horse' Conquers the Movies, Broadway, Libraries, and Now a Small UK Town

With a movie version currently in theaters, a Tony Award-winning play on Broadway, a novel on the best-sellers list and a past SNL parody, War Horse has completely invaded pop culture. But, it has also offered an opportunity to find travel inspiration in all of its various incarnations.
While War Horse (the movie) was filmed at several locations throughout the U.K., including Devon where it is set, none of the movie's locations is more picturesque than the village of Castle Combe in Chippenham. The small village was shut down last fall while Steven Spielberg filmed scenes for the movie outside the Cotswold homes that line its streets.

Los Angeles: Hang Ten at LA's Point Break Live

"If you want the ultimate, you've got to be willing to pay the ultimate price." So says Point Break's sage surf philosopher Bodhi, played by the late, great Patrick Swayze. In the case of Point Break: Live, the ultimate price means being sprayed by water guns, splattered with fake blood, and maybe forced onto the ground during robbery reenactments. Oh, but don't worry, you can purchase a poncho for $1 to shield your clothing.
If you're not familiar with the Los Angeles theater phenomenon that is Point Break: Live you're probably a little confused, so allow us to fill you in. The long-running show is exactly what the title states: a live reenactment of 1991's FBI thriller-meets-surf adventure, with Swayze's Bodhi playing opposite Keanu Reeves' rookie agent (and rookie surf dude).

The 74th annual fest offers Bard classics Twelfth Night and Coriolanus and in a break with tradition, Cyrano de Bergerac, the first non-Shakespeare play the theater has featured since it revived the festival five years ago.
The three productions rotate nightly in the Globe’s outdoor Lowell Davies Festival Theatre through September 27. This way, if you're in town for a couple of days, you can catch all three.
