Looking for something to do this summer? Why not join a group of recent college grads who are traveling across the country picking up trash and inspiring others to join the movement toward zero waste?
Pick Up America is currently in their third month of a year-and-a-half long hike across the country where they are picking up trash on the side of the road. As of June 26, 2010, the "Pick Up Artists" had already traveled 338.4 miles and removed 37,048 pounds of litter with 182 volunteers. The group is currently working their way across Virginia and they want your help!
You can join the Pick Up Artists for up to a month this summer as they move west across the country. The group is also looking for locals to come out and help them pick up trash along the road as they pass through your part of the country. To get more information about where and when they are going to be near you, e-mail pickupamerica@gmail.com. To apply to be for the TRASH-ternship Program in which you can travel with the group and put your skills to work on special projects, submit this application.
London: The Longest Airport Immigration Line You'll Ever See

Click here to see the short (but shocking) video of the line
Think you can easily fly through London's Heathrow Airport because it's big and should have its act together? Well, there's only bad news: it doesn't have its act together and epically long lines pop up every so often for everything from going between terminals to heading through customs. Just search YouTube for crazy long lines at Heathrow, and you'll see what we mean—get stuck in one of these queues and you're looking at a 3-4 hour wait, so you might as well film it.
Nonetheless, no line is as bad as the one that recently occurred at immigration, for those with student visas. Click here to check out the brief video on BBC, where a Heathrow employee filmed the length of the line from back to front. Thank god we're beyond the student visa days.
South Korea Travel: Cheaper Than Ever (For Students)

We like the sound of these benefits and are busily figuring out how to dummy up some fake student cards!
Related Stories:
· Korea Tourism [Official Site]
· North Korea Travel: Not Entirely Safe [Jaunted]
· South Korea Travel coverage [Jaunted]

Students Learn in the Real Wide World

How come high school kids have all the fun--and why didn't this stuff exist back when we were still in school? We're talking about National Geographic's Student Expeditions, which send American teenagers from the ninth to twelfth grades out into the wild for three weeks at a time.
Of course, the hope is that they'll learn something, but it sounds more like a wild vacation to us.
Student expeditions head all over the place--the Galapagos Islands, China, Mali or our personal favorite, Iceland. And although the kids have to turn in a few assignments at the end and do 10 to 20 hours of community service along the way, we're still jealous as hell. Sure beats math tests and history quizzes back in the classroom.
Related Stories:
· Student Expeditions [Official Site]
· More Fun Than Lifeguarding [Intelligent Travel]
· Learning Holidays coverage [Jaunted]
