Sydney: The Dance of the Stingrays

However tragic Aussie wildlife hero Steve Irwin's stingray barb death was, most people'd agree that at least he shuffled off while he was doing something he liked. That's gotta be better than having a heart attack just as you finish your tax return, right? So an Australian theater company wrote a tribute song to Irwin with this sentiment in their currently running pantomime Babes in the Wood.

Fair enough? Apparently not. Phone calls, emails, letters and returned tickets have flooded in from people who think that lines like "let that stingray of love pierce your heart" are just not on. Nor, they say, are the three brightly costumed sting-rays that dance around the stage.

Apparently a similar version of the pantomime already ran three years ago (without the whole stingray deal, of course) and singer/comedian Eddie Perfect just wanted to update it. We say, if you're in Sydney soon, get your tickets now, before the protesters get it taken off the stage.

Related Stories:
· Stingray of Love [The Age]
· Steve Irwin, Australian Hero [Jaunted]

Tasmania: Surf With Us, Steve Irwin

A small bunch of Tasmanians who're missing Steve Irwin thought it might be a good idea to go surfing with a crocodile as some sort of tribute. Rest easy, they weren't too crazy--they took a big rubber inflatable crocodile out to catch some waves.

It was a surreal, magical day in the surf of Tassie. According to Stu Gibson, the leader of the pack, nature just knew that it was a meaningful moment:

All the boys agreed that the wind dropped out and the sets got bigger with the croc out there. The croc got all the best waves.
What's more, the cheap plastic croc survived a battering from high waves. Steve was lookin' out for him, for sure.

Related stories:
Surfers' Tribute [Ananova]
Steve Irwin's Pants [Jaunted]
RIP Steve Irwin [Jaunted]
