Were you not an A-list celebrity, fresh faced socialite, or monied, deliberately disheveled hipster, the chances of being admitted were slim at best. As happens all too often in Manhattan's fickle nightlife scene, the club eventually shut down, only to open a 'cross the pond London branch in 2007.
Bungalow 8 London is still going strong, frequented by the likes of Peaches Geldof and other Pretty Young Things with a taste for top shelf liqueurs.
New York: Prohibition Comes With A Free Drink At New York's City Museum

The Museum of the City of New York is serving up a special exhibit this summer that even the most fervent museum hater could hardly call boring.
The museum, conveniently located on 5th Avenue, just opened “Speakeasy 1220,” a look into the history of NYC's prohibition-era lounges, complete with a full bar. Although often overlooked by visitors in favor of the nearby Met and Museum of Natural History, the City Museum always offers unique, in-depth looks at local history, in this case an examination of the 32,000 underground watering holes that once dotted New York’s landscape.
The museum’s speakeasy skips the secret passwords and text messages that you might find at the faux-speakeasy bars downtown. Instead, this one is right out in the open, but offers a fun look at the music, cocktails, and history of the 1920’s. $10 admission includes a free drink. Come on, how can you not like a museum exhibit that comes with a free drink!
Related Stories:
· The Museum of the City of New York [Official Site]
· MoMA's Garden Parties Are Yours For $20 [Official Site]
· <a href=”http://www.jaunted.com/story/2009/5/7/114317/0498/travel/Taking+In+Museums+Through+the+Flickr+Commons">Taking In Museums Through the Flickr Commons [Jaunted]

San Francisco: Bar Alchemy at Alembic in San Francisco

Though it was the cradle of the counter-culture revolution in the ’60’s, Haight-Ashbury in San Francisco has become disappointingly gentrified of late. Between the bevy of “smoke” shops and thrift stores, you can even go shopping at the Gap and then chow down on Ben & Jerry’s. It’s about time that an establishment reintroduced the cool factor to the area, and that establishment is the Alembic Bar.
The cocktail menu at this speakeasy-ish bar is a bible of classic concoctions, specialty sips and innovative inebriators—all for $9 each. You can get a saucy Sazerac Old Fashioned, a puckery Pisco Sour, or an old seadog called a Poop Deck with cognac, port and blackberry brandy.
