Each week seems to bring more and more airport news, and this week is no exception as it looks like Salt Lake City International Airport is prepping for a major overhaul. We might be exaggerating just a little bit, but the plans and blueprints make it seems like they’re tearing down much of the place and starting from scratch. Airport officials better hope that their primary tenant—Delta—sticks around, as they wouldn’t want to spend all the cash for nothing.

The new additions and upgrades are going to cost around $1.8 billion, give or take a couple bucks, and if all sticks to schedule the cranes will be hanging out with the planes beginning in 2013. Airport officials as well as the city’s mayor have secured some funding from the airlines that call the airport home, so there’s quite a bit of momentum towards building the new place. · Colwood National Golf Club - PDX
There’s four courses that are within a short cab ride from Portland International Airport, but the easiest to access is Colwood National Golf Club. It’s so close to the airport—as well as the Air National Guard Station—that there are places where you can see the planes taxi and take off.

It’s a full 18-hole course, and this summer playing all the holes will set you back around $30. There are a lot of red-eye flights out of PDX back to the east coast—and beyond—so we recommend hitting up one of their twilight specials before heading to the airport. One of the country’s best burger chains has yet to invade NYC, but it has debuted in one of the city’s airports. Newark Liberty International Airport just got its very own Smashburger, and after sampling their burger masterpieces in the Midwest, we have to say that this is definitely a good thing. It’s kind of like Five Guys—but with a little more fanciness—and should satisfy any greasy cravings you might have at the airport. Happy St. Patrick's Day! Although the daytime parades are pretty much over, the evening drinking shenanigans are just getting started around the country as people exchange their office clothes for green beads and wool sweaters.

Meanwhile over at Delta's area at Salt Lake City Airport, the gate agents are mixing it up by donning their green wigs all day and getting some Irish eyes smiling with their spirit. The picture above, posted on Twitter and retweeted by @DeltaAirLines themselves, proves that even though last weekend was a serious downer for Delta and almost every other airline flying to the Northeast during the storms, a little bit of celebration and the promise of spring does wonders to lift moods.

Death to $7.95-an-hour airport WiFi! After five years of ponying up more than $1 for every ten minutes online at Salt Lake City's airport, the airport itself has finally come to its senses will go free from July 1.

The beginning of free WiFi airport access at SLC in July shows that not only does passenger complaining work, but that it can help bring an airport up to date in keeping people connected. With their Boingo contract set to expire, Salt Lake had to make a choice, and for once it wasn't in favor of the nearly $100,000 in revenue that they got from the Boingo plan.

Now if only the masses who use major hubs like JFK, Las Vegas, LAX and Denver can have the same affect so that they too will make the decision to switch to free WiFi. Do we need to organize a picket line?

We were flying home from our trip out to Sundance when we stumbled upon these rental offices at Salt Lake City International. From Regus Express, they're basically short-term cubicles that you can rent to avoid the prying eyes and the pricked up ears of your fellow passengers. Office time goes for a steep $9 for 15 minutes (or $16 for 30 minutes), but if you're expensing it, who cares, right?

Each one of these little business niches has high-speed wired Internet with VPN capability, a fax, a land line phone and even a computer. You're of course free to use your own laptop instead.

The SLC location is between concourses C and D. (It's conveniently near a bar for toasting the newly made deal or drowning your business sorrows!) Regus has locations in Atlanta, Cincinnati, Oakland, Philly and Seattle, too.

Set deliciously close to Salt Lake City--and its massive number of Delta flights--Park City, Utah offers not one but three ski areas from which to choose. Get yourself on an early morning flight from the West Coast, and you might be able to make first tracks on some of that heavenly, dry Utah powder.

While its hard to go wrong at Park City Mountain or The Canyons, Deer Valley has introduced the biggest changes this season, with the opening of 200-plus acres of new terrain, including a glade skiing area where you can test your tree-avoidance skills. At least, you can if you're a two planker; Deer Valley doesn't welcome snowboarders.

The Deer Valley season fires up this Saturday, with full-day tickets going for $79. Multi-day passes can save you a couple bucks, and afternoon passes are $55 for you skiers flying in from the East Coast.
