Winter Warmers and Holiday Ales for All at Three Seasonal Beer Festivals

It's the most wonderful time of the year—or at least that’s how the song goes—so what better way to celebrate the season than by downing a few cold ones. The winter ales and lagers have arrived, and it's almost time to enjoy each and every one of them. Pumpkin ales are shelved and there's more winter fun to be had in 2012, but for the remainder of 2011 here’s where to find some of the best seasonal beer festivals:
· Holiday Ale Festival 2011 – Portland, Oregon:
The very best of the bunch might just be in Portland, Oregon, as the annual Holiday Ale Festival is set to arrive in Pioneer Courthouse Square between November 30 and December 4. That’s right—there’s five total days in which to celebrate, and even if you attend each day you’ll probably miss a beer here or there. In total there are more than 40 breweries expected to be in attendance, and they’re bringing stuff you won’t find at the grocery store or bodega. We’re already thinking about Papa Noel’s Moonlight Reserve from Alameda Brewing and Drunken Elf Stout from Columbia River Brewing—although the Chocolate Mint Stout from Gilgamesh Brewing is tempting too.

Those things are amazing. Instead, travelers faced with delayed flights and long nights at the airport have to spring for an airport-area business hotel or a Holiday Inn Express when they likely don't need all those amenities. Just a good sleep is all some people want, and luckily a few Minute Suites are slowly popping up at airports like <ah ref="http://www.jaunted.com/tag/phl">Philadelphia International.
PHL just opened their mini-hotel of 13 Minute Suites and 2 workstation cubicles, the second Minute Suites after the original at Atlanta Hartsfield-Jackson Airport.
Three Other Famous Zoos With Cobras (That Haven't Been Misplaced)

In the wild, the sight of a king cobra raised in a full warning stance has been known to stop elephants in their tracks. That makes sense, since a king cobra's bite releases enough venom to kill even elephants, and so most animals tend to give them a wide berth. Not us humans though. We take the animals—which are the world's largest venomous snakes—put them in zoos, and keep them behind really really thick glass. Because we're creative that way.
The system only works, though, as long as we mange to keep the cobras behind the glass. If you tried to get into the Bronx Zoo's Reptile House over the last few weeks, you know that doesn't always happen. It works most of the time, but sometimes things go awry, giving rise to mild panic and clever Twitter accounts. The Bronx Zoo cobra Mia is back in her enclosure of course, but in case you're still curious, here's...
Three Other Famous Zoos with Their Own Cobras:

Philadelphia: The Price Tag for Philadelphia Airport's Mega-Renovation is 5 Billion Dollars

For better or for worse, we’ve been in and around our fair share of international airports and we definitely have our favorites. Unfortunately Philadelphia’s airport is not in our top five..or ten...or twenty (you get the picture). That’s why we were excited to hear about the $5.2 billion in renovations, expansions, and Sbarro locations that the airport will be getting over the next several years.
Most of the cost comes from all the updates and upgrades that they’ll be adding to the airport’s runways. The Federal Aviation Administration just gave its stamp of approval to the whole project, but unfortunately things will be a work in progress for the next 12 to 15 years. To help decrease congestion and airline delays, two of the airport's runways will be getting additional space, and they’re even planning to build a fifth runway right along the Delaware River.

Philadelphia: One Last Philly Cheesesteak, at Reading Terminal Market

We laughed (at the church groups at Pat's), we cried (over Geno's xenophobia) and we ate some damned awesome cheesesteak (at Jim's), but in all of our fervor to taste these three, we completely forgot that we actually visited a fourth: Carmen's Famous.
Carmen's was our first stop when we arrived off the train in Philly, and it joins a couple other cheesesteak booths inside of Reading Terminal Market. You won't hear folks from the City of Brotherly Love exclaiming their passion for Carmen's like they do for Pat's or Jim's, simply because their cheesesteaks are pretty standard.
