What's Your Comfy-in-Coach Secret?

Normally, we would just ignore any helpful tips aimed at making a flight in coach more comfortable. How much better is it going to get with a miniscule seat pitch in a middle seat? Anyone who promises a spa-like experience in economy is puffed up with more hot air than a SkyRest.

Yet there must be a better way to prepare yourself for a spine-bending trip in the air besides picking your seat and "pack[ing] your own entertainment." (Does anyone flying today not know to bring something to do? Really?) We will concur with the eye mask though -- it's dorky, but nothing works better when you're trying to sleep on a plane brighter than Virgin America's nightclub decor.

When it comes to making your next flight at least tolerable, what's your favorite trick?

How To Fly With Your Skis

Everyone, it seems, is hauling the skis out of the closet and trying to figure out how to get them to the mountain without paying a checked baggage charge. But unless you're paying for business or first class seats--which usually cover the cost of your bags--you're probably going to end up forking over some cash. But at least you have some options of who you'll be forking to:

Deltalina Shares Her One-Bag Packing Tips

To us, there's nothing more snoozy than reading detailed tips on how to squeeze the most junk into a small roll-aboard or how to cram enough gear for two months into a tiny pack. But Delta is hoping to spice up your packing with some tips from YouTube-famous Deltalina--pointers that are all the more important now that the airline is charging $15 for your first checked bag.

In talking with the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, Deltalina "reveals" that rolling clothes is the best way to neatly pack your stuff while also reducing wrinkles. Once everything's tucked away, she says, dropping a luggage tag with your contact info inside the bag before closing it up is a good idea. That way, if the ID you've attached to the outside disappears, ruthless luggage handlers can still determine which wheelie is yours.

The tips aren't exactly Earth-shattering, but as was the case with those recent TSA videos, they can't hurt with a bustling holiday travel week coming up. And having Deltalina doing the packing is sure to garner some extra attention, too. To wit: This post!

What Phil Keoghan Packs

Being the host of a reality show can obviously be a tedious job: Traveling around the world week-to-week and dealing with checked baggage fees is downright criminal. Luckily The New York Times is around to spotlight the infinite packing wisdom of "The Amazing Race" host Phil Keoghan.

Phil tells writer Michelle Higgins that he drags around one large suitcase and a backpack to carry all his expedition-ready-to-wear. For the rugged multi-tasker in all of us, Keoghan offers his key to success: He takes pictures of all the different outfits that he wears on set. (He refers to the pictures as "idiot shots.")

It's hard to think of messing up jeans and a T-shirt or even a button down every week, but this is quite the look into the mind of celebrity. And we'll all know if he's giving the production crew grief when we see him in Tangiers wearing a Mickey Mouse ringer T-shirt and a tiara.

Jennifer Hudson hit LAX recently, but not with a $5,000 Louis Vuitton like the kind her character has in the "Sex and the City" movie. No, the former "American Idol" star sports a backpack along with her minidress, short hoodie and leggings. Hey, if you're only packing one bag, a backpack could be your best option--even if it isn't the most stylish.

Is that a paper ticket in her hand? Nah, probably just a boarding pass. The death of the paper ticket is supposed to save airlines over $3 billion each year according to USA Today, but of course that means we'll be buying that many more printer cartridges.

Jaffa: Unfashionable Travel: Portman's Man Sports Short Shorts

Natalie Portman and her folksy boyfriend Devendra Banhart went to see the sights in Jaffa, Israel recently, but what's with his ultra-short shorts? They may be cool on the beach or in most American cities, but that is a whole lotta leg for sightseeing abroad.

While Portman sports some demure and clean Bermudas, her sleeve-free arms may also pose a problem if she wants to enter holy buildings, which occasionally ask women to cover up. (In a mosque she would also probably be asked to cover her head out of respect.)

Time to add a pashmina or shawl to our one bag packing list. If Natalie doesn't want to wear it, maybe he could... as a skirt.

Packing One Bag :: The Ladies Edition

Yesterday, we were a little miffed by the packing tips of One Bag that came off as a bit sexist. (Asking ladies to pack one ugly pair of shoes and to use a bathing suit tankini top under suits? As if! Should men wear their speedos as an alternative to briefs at a big meeting?)

Thus we were spurred to create our list of packing tips for the ladies. We travel quite a bit and we never check a bag. These are some of the little things we do to make sure all our stuff fits into one stylish green Kipling carry-on suitcase.
