We'll be the first to tell you that the old Family Guy episode about "Leafers" --city folk looking to spy the reds and golds of fall foliage--had us in stitches. But we could have just as easily enjoyed a tour the countryside as Leafers ourselves. With a cold snap in the air and places like Buffalo, NY already getting walloped by snow, now is the time to get in one last leaf-loving trip.

But where, oh where, to go? Well, you have two options. First, there's the old standby of New England, where the fall color industry is established enough to have dedicated train lines and "flightseeing". USA Today enumerates your options, but you'll have to move quickly as the leaf-peeping season there will soon come to a close.

Alternatively, and believe it or not, Oklahoma springs forth with an bounty of scenery, too. The Pauls Valley Daily Democrat (yeah, we don't know where that is either) breaks down all the leaf peeping locations throughout the state using every adjective in the book, with an emphasis on driving routes that swerve past some beautiful country.

Those folks at the Globe really make everyone's lives easy sometimes. They get the whole no-car-in-the-hellish-city-traffic thing and have published a New England Beach Guide that's public transportation friendly.

Another helpful article outlines seven beaches from Maine to Connecticut and tips on how to get there fastest via train, ferry or bus.

Then the Globers cap it off with our favorite story--on the nearly extinct Honky Tonk beach towns, complete with great photos.

Ahh, the "honky tonk", sometimes referred to negatively as "white trash", or thought of fondly as "the nostalgic days of youth". Either way the "honky tonk" sure makes us hungry for some fried dough.
