A few months ago, Michael Jackson—in movie form only—decided to make one last appearance at Disneyland. Apparently his retro performance must have received rave reviews too, because officials at Disney are pretty pleased with the revival of the Captain EO 3D movie, and they are now bringing it to other parks in the Disney universe.
Despite debuting in 1986, the film is set to reopen at Epcot within Walt Disney World on July 2. Epcot remains Disney's outdated vision of the future, so the somewhat vintage film should fit right in. It’s likely a limited time engagement, so if you’re interested you probably should start looking at flights down to Florida now; you'll be competing with those heading down the June opening of The Wizarding World of Harry Potter too. ]]>
The biggest theme park news lately has been all about Harry Potter, but there’s something else pretty interesting ready to reappear at Disneyland. Captain EO, the snazzy laser-filled 3D movie starring Michael Jackson, is set to return to Tomorrowland sometime this month. We knew it was coming since late last year, but it seems that sneak peeks of the retro attraction might begin any day now.
Apparently testing is already underway as Disneyland employees were invited to check out the attraction last week. An email was sent out to Disney cast members—that’s Mickey Mouse language for employees—describing the testing involved with the movie’s return. Of course they requested that all the secrets of the attraction remain hush-hush, but it looks like someone immediately leaked the email. We’re all for sharing a few secrets among friends, because that’s pretty much why the Internet was invented. ]]>
We've all seen it and thought it the weirdest/awesomest thing ever: the prisoners who perform the full dance routine for Michael Jackson's Thriller in the prison yard. Back in July 2007 when this video hit YouTube, it took the world by storm and now has garnered over 38 million views. We're sure we're not the only ones to wonder exactly where this prison with rhythm is, and thanks to a little digging, we've discovered its location.
Although it could probably become a tourist destination if the prison was open to giving performances, we doubt there are any plans for that happen—so long as they've still got access to YouTube.
