Granger: 'True Grit' and Matt Damon Put Granger, Texas on the Map

This week, Jeff Bridges and Matt Damon are bringing Westerns back with the release of their latest film, True Grit. Though parts of the movie were filmed in New Mexico, most of the shoot took place in Granger, TX which was transformed into an 1870's version of Fort Smith, Arkansas.

The rural town—with a population of only 1,400— seems like an unlikely choice for a big budget Hollywood movie, but the look and feel of Granger convinced producers that it was the right location: "We chose Granger because its appearance is close to that of a turn-of-the-century town that matched the reference photos we have for Fort Smith, Ark.," the film's location manager, Robbie Friedmann said.

Cape Town: Celebrate South African Rugby With Matt Damon In 'Invictus'

Clint Eastwood's soon-to-be-Oscar-nominated film Invictus opens nationwide today. In the movie, Eastwood takes on the daunting task of telling the story of the first few months of Nelson Mandela's South African presidency, including his struggle to get the country's black majority to rally around the nearly all-white Springboks national rugby team, in the hope that it would unite the nation. Mandela (played by Morgan Freeman) first made an example of himself by befriending the team's captain, Francois Pienaar (played by Matt Damon). He then cheered along with the rest of the country as the Springboks went on to defeat the New Zealand All Blacks and win the 1995 World Cup.

The Springboks are still a big deal in South Africa and are currently the holders of the Rugby World Cup and the Tri-Nations Championship. Even though it's off-season, the team is taking their trophies on the road. The tour will start in Cape Town on Friday, February 5 and make its way through all 14 provinces with over 116 stops, including 50 schools as well as clubs and shopping centers. Musina: Matt Damon 'Goodwill' Hunting in South Africa

For the past two weeks, Matt Damon has been multitasking in South Africa. First, he visited Musina, a border town where Zimbabwe refugees have fled to escape violence. Matt was there as a representative of Not on Our watch, an organization he created with Brad Pitt and George Clooney to “focus global attention and resources towards putting an end to mass atrocities around the world.”

Last weekend, Matt took part in the difficult 110km Cape Argus Cycle Tour to raise money for Make A Difference. Sixty mile per hour winds made the ride difficult for cyclists, some of whom were unable to finish the race.

Gonaives: Celeb Do-Gooder Travel: In Haiti, It's Matt Versus Ike

Matt Damon and musician Wyclef Jean help deliver food to one of the many cities in Haiti affected by Hurricane Ike this week. The island nation has been slammed by four tropical storms this hurricane season, leading the Haitian-born Jean to organize a special UN aid effort there with Matt's help.

Meanwhile, a performance in which Damon played, shall we say, a supporting role took home an early Emmy on Saturday.

The Emmys aren't till next Sunday, but the Creative Arts Primetime ceremony bestowed a statuette on comedian Sarah Silverman's kiss-off to ex-boyfriend Jimmy Kimmel, "I'm F#@&ing Matt Damon." Ben Affleck was not thanked for his role in Kimmel's follow-up regarding the actor and the TV host's special relationship.

Miami: Booster Travel: Matt and Ben for Barack

At least two brave men aren't afraid to associate themselves with "the biggest celebrity in the world": Ben Affleck and Matt Damon spoke at an Obama fundraiser in Miami, Florida over the weekend.

Affleck's wife Jennifer Garner also spoke, reportedly bringing down the crowd with her jokes. Wonder if any of them were about Kathy Hilton, who called John McCain out on his incoherent US Weekly-style ad and gently reminded him that the Hiltons are major personal donors to the Republican coffers. Oops!
