Today The Rum Diary, starring Johnny Depp, opens across the U.S. and in Puerto Rico, where the movie was filmed in 2009. Based on the Hunter S. Thompson novel about his own real-life boozy existence in San Juan in the 1950's, The Rum Diary stars Depp as Paul Kemp, a young American journalist working for a floundering English newspaper in San Juan.
The movie was filmed in Old San Jaun, Fajardo, at the former U.S. air base Roosevelt Roads Naval Station, and in the rainforest of El Yunque. ]]>
Movie fans in New Mexico were faced with a major disappointment last week when Disney pulled the plug on The Lone Ranger, which was going to begin filming near Silver City next month.
The production was reportedly shut down due to budgetary concerns, but the drama doesn't seem to be affecting the movie's star, Johnny Depp, who has kept mum since the announcement was made.

It's not a flashy one at all (as you can see in the photo above), but the Daily Mail reports that Palazzo Dona Sangiantoffetti is costing Depp £8.5million ($13.5 million) after a bidding war with an Arab prince. There are only so many available palazzi left right on the Grand Canal, we suppose, especially since many have been turned into museums. ]]>
Johnny Depp and his Pirates of the Caribbean 4 cohorts are on the move once again. They started shooting in Hawaii this summer, then spent a few weeks in L.A. and Puerto Rico.
Last week, they landed at the Old Royal Naval College on the campus of the University of Greenwich, in London, where they transformed several buildings into an 18th Century village. Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides is scheduled to film in Greenwich for the next 4 or 5 weeks.
Greenwich is best known for its maritime history and the National Maritime Museum, which is the largest museum of its kind in the world. The Naval College has always been a popular filming location and has already been featured in The Duchess, Gulliver’s Travels, The Golden Compass and The Wolfman. ]]>
For the past week, the streets around the He'eia Kea Pier and Kaneohe Bay on the windward coast of Oahu have been jam packed with fans trying to get a glimpse of Captain Jack Sparrow.

Now, Johnny Depp fans in Serbia can pose for photos with the actor anytime they want. Johnny was honored with a statue in his image at the the opening of the Third Annual Kustendorf Film festival held in Belgrade, Serbia yesterday. The nearly life-size statue was created by renown sculptor Dragan Nikolic Bajastatue and was presented to Depp by Serbian director Emir Kusturica. In addition to the statue, Johnny also received the “Award for Future Movies.” Umm....
The statue was unveiled in the village of Drvengrad, which was created by Kusturica for his film, Life is a Miracle. Though it started out as a movie set, the "woodenvillage" is now a popular tourist destination with restaurants, a movie theater, library and gallery. The town was even named the best European architectonic achievement in the last three years by the expert jury of the Brussels Foundation for Architecture.
