Lake George: Revolutionary War Drags On as British Soldiers Blast Dude With Cannon in Upstate New York

Most people think the American Revolutionary War ended with the surrender of General Lord Cornwallis at Yorktown in 1781, but there appear to be a handful of British holdouts still battling from a fort in in upstate New York. As msnbc.com points out, an American tourist and his wife were recently shot by a British cannon as they enjoyed a picnic lunch on the southern shore of Lake George.

Pittsfield: Simply Your Feast At Hancock Shaker Village

Don't feel like traveling to Aunt Margaret's with a store-bought pie under your arm? Travel back in time instead for dinner at Hancock Shaker Village in Massachusetts on November 29 for an 1830 meal.
In this dining room, candles light the dishes, the hosts wear traditional dress (including bonnets!) and Blackberrys don't exist. After a tour, tuck into roast beef and bread pudding and wash it all down with cider. No staying overnight in the historic unheated buildings, though!
Related Stories:
· Shaker Suppers: Typical Bill of Fare [Hancock Shaker Village]
· Thanksgiving coverage [Jaunted]
