If Patrick "McDreamy" Dempsey knows one thing, it's how to appeal to his fan base. How else could we explain the strategic leaking to the press that, when Dempsey was filming his latest movie "Made of Honor" in Scotland, he decided to dress in a kilt. Briefless.

Too bad the "Grey's Anatomy" star claims he had to abandon this nod to tradition after getting some nasty fly bites. Between extraneous undershorts and putting DEET-y repellent on your naughty bits, we go for the shorts every time.

In "Made of Honor," which opens May 2, Dempsey plays a man who falls for his best lady friend (Michelle Monaghan) just as she's getting hitched. Sounds just like "My Best Friend's Wedding," but without Rupert Everett to make it all OK.

Patrick Dempsey (Dr. Derek "McDreamy" Shepard on "Grey's Anatomy") was in Maine recently to preside over the opening of the Patrick Dempsey Center for Cancer Hope & Healing, opened in honor of his mother, an ovarian cancer survivor.

Dempsey is a Lewiston native and as such will probably make an appearance at the Great Falls Balloon Festival in August. (His hometown is about 35 miles from Portland.) Wonder if Dr. Grey is a balloon fan... we sure are.

"Grey's Anatomy" cast member T. R. Knight pushed a giant package through customs at LAX late Wednesday night. He had been in Paris with coworker and bestie Katherine Heigl while she promoted her movie "27 Dresses." Looks like he could fit about all of them in this box.

Do any traveling this past weekend? We're still unpacking from our coach ordeals, but "Private Practice" doc Kate Walsh was all smiles waiting at baggage claim at LAX on Monday, Christmas Eve. She and her husband were returning from "Grey's" co-star Katherine Heigl's wedding at Deer Valley in Utah on the 23rd.

We're a little surprised to see someone actually checking baggage on during the holiday travel season. (Seems like a great way to never see your bags again.) Still, it's easy to pack too much when you're headed to ski resorts, so we'll pardon the baggage faux pas this time.

Go ahead and smirk, Kate Walsh! Doctor Montgomery's transfer to the Oceanside Wellness Group and her own spin-off "Private Practice," which we covered in our tour of fall TV premieres, just got picked up for a full season by ABC. What a sweet treat for the actress, who recently celebrated her birthday with "Private Practice" and "Grey's Anatomy" friends at West Hollywood's Park Lounge.

Also picked up, but not covered on Jaunted, was CBS geek comedy "The Big Bang Theory." Both shows are set in Los Angeles County, but unless you're in LA for medical tourism, you might have more fun chasing the cast of "Theory". The show's set in Pasadena, home to the New Year's Day Tournament of Roses Parade.

The Seattle Convention and Visitors Bureau shouldn't have a tough time selling the Emerald City, at least since the sexy surgeons of Grey's Anatomy started crawling all over town. But just in case you've put off your visit, in one of the most tortured promotional schemes we've seen, the bureau reminds us that Seattle is "Metronatural".

Riiight. The guy behind the term says:

Branding a city like Seattle required a brand new word - so we created one.

The premise is that you get both outdoor tourism and great culture in Seattle. That much, at least, we can't dispute. With the newly-expanded Seattle Art Museum, its Olympic Sculpture Park and the renovated Seattle Aquarium, the city seems to be doing just fine without the hokey tag line.

Yesterday, cast member T.R. Knight, Dr. O'Malley (who is gay in real life but not on the show), went on "Ellen" to revive a months-old fight and to suggest cast member Isaiah Washington (Dr. Burke) apologize or leave the show. However, what we are really wondering is where do real life medical workers hang out in Seattle? And are their lives anything like the hit medical drama, or is it all just beautiful ruse perpetuated by ABC?
