European LCC FlyGlobespan Abruptly Fails, Stranding Thousands of Passengers

We really hate it when this happens, especially when it happened to Slovakia-based SkyEurope only a few months ago, but Scotland's LCC airline FlyGlobespan has shut down abruptly, stranding thousands of their passengers around Europe and canceling future flights and vacations. The airline stopped trading yesterday and entered administration; in laymen's terms they are bankrupt.
And just like with SkyEurope, other European airlines are doing their best to mobilize and rescue some 4,500 stranded former FlyGlobespan passengers trapped on holiday mainly in Spain, Portugal, Cyprus and Egypt. Ryanair was the first to jump on offering "Globespan Rescue" rates from 59 GBP ($96.50), which is pricey for the LCC but reasonable if you consider the last-minute, space-available nature of these rescue seats.

FlyGlobespan: Sit Quickly Or You'll Be Looking For A Hotel

We love a good deal, and admittedly, have been a bit jealous of our friends in the U.K who've been saving pounds for years by traveling on the budget-carrier Ryanair.
But then we found FlyGlobespan. The cheeky airline offers cheap tickets from this side of the Atlantic to some of Europe's premier destinations.
So just what does $200 bucks get you? When it comes to air travel, usually not much. But at FlyGlobespan, a couple of Benjamins will take you from Boston to Glasgow or New York to Liverpool. You can even get from Calgary to London or from Toronto to Birmingham--Often times with change to spare.
But the international service can be spotty. Depending on where you travel, you'll have to use one of FlyGlobespan's sister sites to book a return ticket home.
One recent traveler found that FlyGlobespan flights can come with other headaches:

Travelled on 18th July from Hamilton, Canada. supposedly direct to Manchester, we went to JFK New York What a nightmare! Had to collect our luggage & recheck it in after going through that passport control, fingerprints & photos - they are not the most welcoming of people, what a fiasco it was to recheck our luggage. We got back on the plane to discover some of us had different seats and to be told sit down quickly or you'll be looking for a hotel for the night

Is saving some dosh worth these antics? You decide.

Related Stories:
· FlyGlobespan coverage [Jaunted]
· FlyGlobespan [Official Site]
· FlyGlobespan Reviews [Airlineequality]
[Photo Credit: North West Air News ]

FlyGlobespan Passenger Snorts Cocaine Off Tray Table

More trouble for the fledgling Scottish airline FlyGlobespan -- A teenager was reportedly arrested at Edinburgh airport today after snorting cocaine off the tray table of a FlyGlobespan plane while awaiting takeoff.
The plane was heading from Edinburgh to--wait for it--Ibiza. However, before the plane could take off, officials boarded the plane, questioned passengers, and took a few suspects off the plane so sniffer dogs could search them.
FlyGlobespan officials had this to say:

Following a complaint, a senior stewardess told the captain who immediately aborted take-off. The passenger in question was removed.

The beleaguered start up low cost airline, and its customers, have endured extraordinary delays this summer at many of their destination airports, and according to reports, some recently stranded JFK passengers are even considering a lawsuit against the airline.
Related Stories:
· Ibiza Hotel Reviews [Hotelchatter]
· Travel In Spain [Jaunted]
· FlyGlobespan News [Scotsman]

Jessica Biel Proves American Might Be As Good A Choice As Any This Summer

No wonder Jessica Biel has been anointed one half of our new Super World Travelers duo. Not only did she just finished Eurohopping with her boyfriend, but she also arrived at LAX and checked in to an American Airlines flight like a commoner. Yup, waited in the security lines and had to remove her Nikes just like the rest of us.
Why American? Well with all the flight delays this summer American just might be a decent choice. Don't laugh, AA can't be any worse than, Flyglobespan, which has been having a myriad of delay and cancellation issues this summer, thankfully they don't fly from Europe to LAX. Meanwhile, more air delay drama, as Maylasian Airlines apologizing for recent delays sans YouTube. Meanwhile, airport bookstores all across India are raking it in because of consistent flight delays. Finally, even the normally innocuous Houston Chronicle is telling potential fliers to avoid air travel at all costs because 2007 has been so fraught with delays.
That brings us back to American. First Adriana Lima, and now Jessica Biel, looks like American Airlines is doing just fine during these trying times for commercial airlines, thank you very much.
The Jessica Biel LAX airport photoshoot shots are here--scroll down.
