After a rock slide on Tuesday damaged an unoccupied cabin, another pile of debris forced hundreds of visitors from their vacation hideaways Wednesday at Yosemite National Park. Thursday, park officials reopened some of the cabins in Curry Village while still investigating what caused to rocks to tumble.
The LA Times has an thesaurus-friendly description of the excitement, which injured three:
An 1,800-cubic-yard slab of rock cartwheeled down the cliff, shattered and sent boulders and fist-size granite shrapnel toward the edge of Curry Village and its more than 500 tent cabins, regular cabins and hotel rooms.
Park Ranger Erik Skindrud said about 1,000 visitors had to be evacuated in the slide's aftermath, many of them visiting schoolchildren and their chaperons.
The slide started just below Glacier Point, and park officials have been examining the area by helicopter to determine what may have caused the rocks to fall.

We don't know of any famous creeps from Niles, a Southwestern Michigan town two hours from Chicago. But scare aficionados appraise its Scream Park as one of the best pop-up haunted houses for miles around because of its breadth of horrors.

And unlike the major theme-park fright nights, this one is open to you for just $22. Which is great 'cause you may have to buy new pants afterward.

With its rich bangers-and-mash and bacon-and-toast traditions, England was far from the first country to get on board the vegetarian bandwagon. But the Swiss are looking to teach Londeners a thing or two, by exporting their popular vegetarian restaurant, Tibits, which opened a location in the West End last week.
The menu is all-organic, seasonal and natural, but don't look for tofu-wrapped anything: Tibits brags that 90 percent of customers are non-vegetarians.
The Asian- and Indian-tinged salads and sandwiches are tasty enough to lure the meat-eating crowd, and a lengthy list of cocktails helps, as does a selection of organic lagers, specialty coffees and Indian teas.

It's Friday. You've been working and you've just about had it. Unless you're one of those lucky people already at the Great American Beer Festival in Denver this weekend, in which case: We hate you. Now get off the Internet and buy us a pint!
The fest, administered by the Brewers Association, is a brewers' competition and a tippler's delight with some 1,800 beers. But you can't actually get a pint of any of them--instead, they are served in one-ounce tasting portions more familiar to fans of "Sideways" than, well, "Beerfest."
The show is sold out according to its organizers, but for the dedicated drinker Craigslist shall provide. The party runs through Saturday at the Colorado Convention Center.
