Airline Report: Elysair Reborn

We sure were looking forward to the Blind Melon MIDI that would inevitably wind up on Elysair's homepage, but it turns out Elysair's homepage is no more. In fact, the company itself is no more; the airline formerly known as Elysair has been re-branded as L'Avion, and its new website isn't nearly as vintage. The English version, to which you're re-directed from the old Elysair.com, isn't finished yet, but the French one is.

Do any of y'all speak French? We don't, but from what we can gather from the French-language site, special promotional prices for the launch will start at €1000 r/t. There aren't any good pictures of the seating up on the appropriate section yet, but based on a quick Google translation, we're guessing that with a 140-degree recline, seats will be more MAXjet than Eos. Also according to the Google translation, the seats' color scheme will lend itself to "sobriety and the appeasing." You can get sober and appeased between Paris and Newark starting on December 27.

Related Stories:
· Budget airline offers Paris-NY with French frills [Reuters]
· Elysair Parties Like It's 1995 [Jaunted]

Elysair Parties Like It's 1995

In the grand tradition of airline launch ambiguity, Elysair is kicking it up a notch. We reported on the French airline last month. It's set to become something like the MAXjet or Eos of Paris, with all-business-class flights to and from there and the U.S. There's a big difference between MAXjet and Eos, but because Elysair has yet to release its seating plans, we don't know quite what they're going for.

But while looking for more information on Elysair's supposed December launch, we stumbled upon their killer website, which was beamed up straight from 1994 or '95. Perhaps they're spending so much money or gorgeous seats that they can't afford more than a megabyte of server space? Whatever the case, we love the "Under Construction" graphic, probably because we had one just like it on our very first homepage. The only thing they're missing is an embedded Blind Melon MIDI.

There's no techie competition between Elysair and Virgin America, but the lesson learned from both is the same: to calculate an airline's actual launch date, you will need a TI-83 for some serious multiplication and addition action.

Related Stories:
· Airline Report: EWR to ORY Means Business [Jaunted]

Airline Report: EWR to ORY Means Business

Newly formed French airline Elysair has announced it plans to start all-business-class service from Newark to Paris (Orly) in December. The party will kick off with just one leased Boeing 757-200 and six flights weekly.

No announcements regarding fares have been made yet, save for that they'll "be competitive with those of mainstream airlines." You'll have to wait until next month, when Elysair promises to reveal more information, to find out what that actually means. If they offer lower fares like MAXjet, it should be a sweet deal, especially because Orly is one of those "alternative" airports that is actually closer than its big brother(s) to the city it serves. Then again, we'll make our final evalutation on the "deal" when details on seats and amenities are released.

Related Stories:
· New French airline to offer business class flights from Orly to New York [IHT]
