Not Familiar With 'Comefly?' Well, They're Flying Nonstop From Florida To Denmark

Every once in a while we seem to come across some new-to-us airline, and this week it’s some kind of charter dealio that’s flying nonstop from Florida to Denmark. You’d think a likely city pair would be something like Miami to Copenhagen, but that’s not the case. This airline is crossing the Atlantic with the sole purpose of linking Fort Myers, Florida and Aalborg, Denmark.

The flights will operate once a week—on Mondays—starting on December 19 and running through April 9 of next year. If you’re looking to hitch a ride just talk to the folks over at Comefly, because they’re the ones in charge. Although, it’s actually Monarch Airlines that are the ones responsibility for doing the flying of the airplanes. Confused? Yes, we were too, especially with the less than awesome English translation of the website—but hey—they tried.

Provided that I'd recently seen a staging of Hamlet at London's Globe Theater, it's appropriate that my recent jaunt to Copenhagen concluded with a trip to Kronborg Castle, the supposed site of the Bard's famous work.

Located in Helsing�r, approximately a 35-minute train ride outside of the city, the castle is quite easy to get to from Copenhagen's central station, though the journey itself doesn't afford particularly pretty scenery. (The seaside is mainly obscured by shrubbery en route.)

Where the magic happens: the on-site roaster

My trip to Copenhagen was largely informed by the insider knowledge of a gracious host who literally pulled out a map of the city upon my arrival, then proceeded to circle and scrawl the names of his favorite food and shopping haunts upon it. This quintessentially cool, moustachioed local shared secrets that no run-of-the-mill guidebook would impart, his word as good as travel gold.

So, when he stated with complete conviction that Coffee Collective, a micro roastery located on J�gersborggade, served "easily Copenhagen's best coffee," my mission was clear: visit and adequately caffeinate at CC by trip's end. And caffeinate I did, stopping by for a black Amerikano on a brief break from trolling for fashion and art finds in J�gersborggade's many boutiques.

Copenhagen's picturesque waterfront is the stuff postcards are made of. Lining the Nyhavn canal are buildings painted in bright hues, along with a string of tourist-clogged restaurants with umbrella awnings, beer-supping customers and a constant flow of seafood dishes streaming from their kitchens. It is often Stop Number One for out-of-towners, listed as a "Must See" in many a guidebook and affording a romantic photo op for the snap-happy.
