So. About That Whole Rand Paul Versus the TSA Thing...

First the raw news, such as it is. Yesterday Senator Rand Paul was flying from BNA to DCA and, while walking through a scanner, triggered the alarm. Per TSA regulations he was put in the waiting area—which at BNA is a glass "cubicle"—until an agent could be found to pat him down. Sen. Paul demanded the right to be allowed to walk through the scanner a second time but, again per TSA protocol, he was told he'd have to submit to get patted down. He refused and instead tried to walk out of the cubicle, and eventually had to be escorted out of the airport.
We want to pause here to emphasize the absolutely explicit explanation that Paul gave for his behavior. He says that he thinks TSA should allow people to walk through scanners twice, so he acted as if TSA does allow people to walk through scanners twice. In other words he acted as if the reality he wishes was true was actually true. We're going to blockquote this so you can tell we're not making this up:

Amsterdam: The World's First Airport Library Was in Nashville, Not Amsterdam

Nashville's Airport Reading Room
Yesterday, Amsterdam's Schiphol Airport officially opened the door to their brand spanking-new library, the first of its kind at an airport, or so they said. It's located on "Holland Boulevard," the passageway connecting Piers E and F after security, and it's open every day during regular airport hours. In terms of modern libraries, it does really sound like an excellent amenity for travelers:

The library, which offers literature, music and films, is a joint and unique initiative by Amsterdam Airport Schiphol and the Dutch Public Libraries. The Airport Library is the world's first library opened at an airport, and Amsterdam Airport Schiphol the first airport where passengers can read books in 29 different languages, listen to music, watch films and download these free of charge.

That said, it's not the first like it claims.

Nashville: Security Theater: Jewel's (Not) Hilarious Nashville Airport Prank

Stars: They're not like us! Singer Jewel played a prank on tour buddy Brad Paisley which consisted of him being arrested at Nashville International Airport.
After they played their last tour date together in Selma, Texas, the Alaskan former folkie arranged for two rent-a-cops to "arrest" Paisley at the gate when he returned to Nashville, handcuffing him and shoving him into an unmarked car. It was there Paisley learned it was a joke as he was cited for excessive "noodling" on the guitar.
This gives an entire new meaning to the term "security theater." Creating a realistic-looking arrest at a gate within view of other passengers and hiring people to impersonate TSA agents and cops? Totally OK. Making a joke going through security? Years in prison.
Related Stories:
· Jewel Punks Brad Paisley [KWTX]
· UFO over Stephenville, Texas Looking For Jewel And Tasty BBQ [Jaunted]
· Celeb Travel coverage [Jaunted]
